Over 100 years old is this French nun's travelling shrine icon from a French convent. Circa 1880, it is in a leather case in the shape of a gothic church window with an ornate brass victorian clasp. The two side panels open on two brass hinges. Mounted inside is a round silverplate icon depicting The Queen of Heaven, the Virgin Mary, and The Christ Child, both crowned. The old velvet and satin lining is old and discolored with age. The icon has a wonderful patina. Closed it measures 5.25" tall x 3.5" wide x 1" deep. Open, it measures 7" wide. The 132 year old leather case is worn with age and patina and the back "easel" is missing, but it stands perfectly fine without it open or closed. What a wonderful collectible!
