This old jelly jar or pot de confitures is a lovely example of antique French country glass. It is heavy and stout and really quite wonky! It has 8 defined sections and tapering sides. The glass is riddled with tiny air bubbles and has natural crazing in the glass (these are not cracks but natural variations in the thick, old glass). This jar would have been used for jams, chutneys or preserves and would have been sealed with a parafin wax lid, no screw tops in those days!
Simply gorgeous! This would be a wonderful addition to a French country kitchen. Or simply wonderful half filled with a nice chilled white wine as rustic drinking glass.
These are getting hard to find and this one is a beautiful example. It measures approximately 3 inches (7.5cm) tall and is approximately 4 inches (10cm) in diameter across the top.
