This cake topper is made by combining cast clay parts. The process starts with the casting of the human couple. A white liquid clay is poured into a handmade plaster mold. Once firm, the clay couple is removed from the mold……… only to meet the unfortunate fate of decapitation. New heads are cast and attached. Details are recarved, and seam lines are cleaned up.
Toppers are fired twice in an electric kiln. After the initial bisque firing, toppers are dipped into a clear glaze and fired again until they shine. The groom is 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall before the new head is attached. Animal ears or necks add about an inch. The base is oval in shape and is 3.25 inches (8cm) from left to right and 2.5 from back to front.
Signed at the bottom. The bags are packed and these guys are all ready to ship out.
GROOM: fox just under 7 inches tall
NOTES: This is not a stark blue/white.... closer to an Ivory. It is not unusual for the glaze to have mini-black speckles. Please always take a close look at photos.
I have been making these toppers since 2007, but I am starting to shift my cake topper listings over to this shop, to keep things streamlined. Pop over to the other shop to see what else is going on in the studio, and to see more cake topper options. Thanks!
