A classic circle shape and a stellar color combination of lichen gree and robin's egg blue, are what sets this little gem of a necklace apart from others....
Usually hammers and glass (enamel is powdered glass melted onto copper) don't mix well together, but when they do, it's a beautiful thing! I enameled two pieces of copper many times and hammer riveted them together with a handmade silver rivet.
My process = Copper is cut from a thick sheet of metal. It is carefully cleaned and prepared in order to accept the enamel. Then, I apply multiple layers of enamel, which is finely powdered glass. The layers of enamel are fused to the copper at a very high temperature with a torch. This firing process is repeated many times. And voila .... a vibrantly colored enamel pendant which is smooth to the touch and will make a great gift for yourself or a loved one.
Pendant= 1.5 inch (~3.8 cm) in diameter
Chain= 17 inch (~43.2 cm) cable chain oxidized pure (not plated) sterling silver necklace with a sterling silver toggle clasp
The art of enameling has been around for..... a really long time. The first known enameled objects were made during the 13th century B.C. The word "enamel" means ‘melting’, which comes from a prehistoric Germanic word "smalt". I LOVE this ancient art form for many reasons. Its color will remain just as vibrant in 200 years as it is the day it's created.
