Galalith is a synthetic plastic material manufactured by the interaction of casein (milk protein) and formaldehyde. The fashion industry during the early 20th century found this to be a wonderful alternative to the more expensive horn, ivory and bone products. This new plastic was presented at Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900.
