The base yarn for this is a skein of fun novelty yarn, 40% wool, 25% acrylic, 20% polyamide and 15% lurex. The yarn is beautifully soft and squishy. It is double stranded (see photo against 1 inch measure for accurate gauge).
I hand painted it in two stages, knowing that the different fibres would take up the dye in very different ways. The main colours are several shades of yellow and gold. There is a fine white thread which is untouched by the dye. This, together with the gold lurex, offers a good contrast. The last picture shows the same yarn before it was reskeined to show the colour blocks.
I personally see this one as an open lightweight scarf, knitted on fairly large needles, possibly combined with another yarn.
