Tea gowns were meant to be worn at home so the woman could be comfortable often uncorseted while lounging in her own home or accepting visitors in the afternoon. These loose gowns gave women great comfort, ease of access and a remarkable sense of femininity. It in no wonder that the tea gown lasted from as early as the 1840s to the 1920s!! Since this gown was made with a regular back...it is suitable for regular public day wear. It has buttons down the entire front, but can be unbuttoned half way up and a matching skirt placed beneath to wear in that fashion. Although this gown is from the Natural Form Era and you do not need to wear a bustle beneath it...you still must wear a petticoat to make it look correct and lay correct. It does have semi-long train in the back that lays beautifully. BEWARE...people tend to walk on them and put a very quick HALT to your forward motion! (I know this for a fact from wearing them myself in Tombstone!) We just don't seem to look for trains on gowns these days!! :-)
This gown was worn once and then returned to me for resale. It has no tears or stains.....it is still in excellent condition. I did wash this when returned and ironed it so it is ready to go to it's new home!

This gown was made by Joy's Victorian Needle as are all of the ones in this shop. All gowns are sewn using period sewing techniques from that time.
