This darling little mustard pot was made by Aviemore Pottery of Scotland. It’s a creamy shade of white and all of the pictures and printing were done in blue. There is a cottage scene on the front of the jar. Above the scene is “Fortnum & Mason” and “Fine Old English Mustard” is below. On the back is the United Kingdom’s coat of arms, the British monarchs’ motto and the motto of the Order of the Garter.
The UK coat of arms features a shield with the British lion and the Unicorn of Scotland. The monarchs’ motto under the shield is French, “dieu et mon droit” which translates to “God and my right”, possibly referring to the king’s divine right to rule. Only the words Honi and Pense are visible in the Order of the Garter motto, however, since most of it is behind the shield. That full motto is “ Honi soit qui mal y pense” which means “Spurned be the one who evil thinks".
Below the coat of arms and mottos are the words
“By appointment to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Grocers & Provision Merchants
Fortnum & Mason Ltd. London"
On the base it says “Aviemore Pottery Scotland” with what appears to be their logo. The pot is in very nice condition. A couple of fleabites on rim of base--not bad. Otherwise, NO chips or crazing.
Approximately 3-¼” tall and 3” diameter
