Nice Victorian style blue and white rhinestone cross pendant in a 12k gold filled setting -- really has the look of an original Victorian paste cross. Comes with a modern gold chain, but it looks really beautiful on a black velvet ribbon. Perfect for Civil War or Regency era reenactors. Jane Austen herself had a topaz cross that her brother gave her -- it was her most cherished piece of jewelry and she wore it often. The date of the lovely lady from New Orleans in the portrait featured had her likeness painted in 1857 -- pendant crosses are a timeless piece of jewelry, and were as popular in the 19th century as they are today.
Godey's Ladys Book in 1863 wrote: "Velvet necklaces are among the pretty novelties. They are a yard and a quarter long, and half an inch wide, and are ornamented with pendants, which surround the throat, the velvet being tied in a bow behind."
Please see my other antique style jewelry offerings at http://www.etsy.com/shop/victoriansentiments?section_id=7179688 I try very hard to find vintage pieces that have the true look of the 19th Century, but at a fraction of the price. I do have a great selection of original Victorian pieces too!
