The flooring piece was destined for the burn pile, but I thought it could be something beautiful. So I salvaged, cut, squared, sanded, distressed and then painted it with a base coat of black paint and a white (off-white or antique white is more accurate) top coat. It was scraped and sanded a bit more, to make sure it had a perfectly distressed look. Old is new again.
The hanging fixture for the jar is braided copper - again salvaged from the old wiring being removed from the house renovation.
