This is a 1961 9 inch Terrestrial globe. Natural Scale 1:L55,800,000 880 Statute Miles = One Inch. Spellings conform to official rulings of United States Geographic Board and Royal Geographical Society... No.90... C1163
The globe is comprised of coated paper gores over pasteboard with a time dial at the North Pole. The oceans are finished in medium blue, and features an analemma in Pacific, along with the International Date Line, nautical distances and ocean currents. The globe is mounted on a simple but elegant wooden base with beveled rolled footings and a metal offset arm.
This model is displaying the political borders of 1961, as it shows the United Arab Republic (1958-61), a venture between Egypt and Syria, which lasted only a very short period. Interestingly only Egypt is labeled as the UAR. Since the legend of this model no longer identifies French West Africa (dissolved in 1960) it simplified the task of identifying the age of the Globe.
The condition of the globe is good! The colors are a pastel shade with minimal fading and minimal wear in the form of scattered very small scuffs. The equator tape is intact and present! The base is in good conditon with the only issue being on the top wooden circular connector which appears to have two sections where the original varnish as worn away and light wear in the form of small scratches on the edges. With all of that said I can honestly say that none of hte above detracts from the great look of this classic Crams globe and base!
The smaller size also makes this a great display piece as it will fit just about anywhere!!
As always, ENJOY!!!
