One needs only to think of the enormous Gainsborough hat made popular by the portrait of
Lady Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, painted by Sir Thomas Gainsborough.
An earlier ostentation, revived by the Edwardians.
I have lovingly handblocked this luscious shade of lavender sinamay, on vintage hat blocks, and trimmed it with a beautiful piece of antique lace around the crown, (please note, future hats will have a different piece of antique lace), with a sweet row of floral ribbon garland. A charming nosegay of ribbon chrysanthemum, organza azaleas, and paper forget-me-nots, accent the side of the hat, while whispy tendrils of ostrich fronds, tumble off the side of the brim. All hand finished. No glue is used in the making of this hat!!
A discrete millinery elastic worn under the hair, helps to keep the hat in place, in case of an unexpected gust of wind.
This hat is currently in process, and at a point where I can make it most any size. Please convo me with your head measurement--taken over the ears, over the eyebrow line, and the fullest part of the back of your head, PLUS one finger for comfort. Not too tight!!
NOTE: Although this hat has virtually no weight, it must be shipped in a very large box to protect it from crushing. We ship USPS Priority with delivery confirmation/ and tracking. USPS also charges a surcharge for oversized boxes, thus the cost of shipping.
