An absolutely exquisite original 1950’s sleeveless dress in an ethereal white chiffon organza. This would make a fabulous wedding gown – certainly lovely enough for a very special occasion. The style typifies the 50’s - oh so feminine and figure flattering – narrow bodice perfect to accentuate a narrow waist – with a twirling full skirt. No maker’s label remains but a vintage style tag and union label confirm this dress was professionally made. No fabric contents label but this is a synthetic, likely nylon blend.
Note the special details on this wonderful dress – flattering ruched chiffon bodice, the full twirling skirt and especially the exquisitely decorated cummerbund waist. The trim detail is done in cotton applique flowers. There are two layers to the skirt - an ivory satin acetate lining, topped by a final layer of white chiffon. Note the dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included.
The dress closes down the centre back with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in ivory satin acetate.
No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit. This is a small size which would best fit a modern size 2 or 4.
Bust – 33-34”
Waist – ideally 24-25”
Hips – full
Length – 38”
Torso length (including shoulder strap) – 15”
Skirt length (waist to hem) – 23”
This dress is in excellent vintage condition. No holes or stains and underarms are clean. A few minor mentions - two inconspicuous repairs to the skirt, which are lost in the folds of fabric and if seen, resemble creases/folds ; a slightly worn patch and a few ink dots on the skirt lining. Of course there are also the snags or picks typical of chiffon dresses of this era. No significant defects to note. I suspect the skirt has also been shortened.
