This is a beautiful miniature hand-embroidered poisonous Fly Agaric Toadstool, created using a variety of traditional Jacobean raised embroidery, or Stumpwork, techniques. It is set into a gold plated oval pendant.
This is a very intricate piece of embroidery; hand-dyed wool felt decorated with French knots makes up the mushroom’s appliquéd cap. Tiny bullion knots, chain stitch, satin stitch, and French knots in 100% cotton threads make up the rest. It is worked on to heavy vintage cotton, which has been lightly dyed using organic tea, giving a lovely, antiqued mottle.
My embroideries are painstakingly worked in miniature. I use magnifying lamps to help me make the tiny stitches, most no more than a millimetre long. I use an array of fine English needles to ensure the finish is neat and tidy.
The embroidery alone took over 4.5 hours to create. It is a strictly limited edition, and as a made-to-order piece, you have custom options available to you; I can provide a true rainbow of hand dyed felt for the mushroom cap in this design. If you prefer something different to the traditional red shown, please let me know in the message to seller when you check out.
It is mounted into a high quality gold plated pendant, and measures 55mm x 40mm in size. It hangs on a 27.5” gold plated chain, with sturdy gold plated lobster clasp.
It comes from a smoke-free household and has all my love and care patiently worked into every stitch.
