Workshop Minutes: Street Team Meeting 2007.07.18
Minutes Started Wed Jul 18 2007 15:30:57 GMT+0000 (UTC)
sarawearsskirts: hi, everyone!
sarawearsskirts: i'm glad you all could make it again
ZestyB joined the room
sarawearsskirts: for this week's discussion, i made a really basic cheat sheet of workshop commands for asking questions and things
sarawearsskirts: you can find it here http://team.etsy.com/workshop-cheat-sheet.html
sarawearsskirts: i think we'll do this the same format as last time, with some time for questions, then open discussion on those questions
sarawearsskirts: so we'll accept questions... now!
awesomeadornments joined the room
littlegreycatdesigns joined the room
littlegreycatdesigns left the room
sarawearsskirts: hello! we're taking questions now - you ask a question by typing /ask into the chatty bar
zblankets joined the room
abitabite asks, can you do a basic what is a street tema please sara there are ppl in here that dont know
sarawearsskirts: sure! a street team is a group of people who get together to promote their shops and etsy
sarawearsskirts: they can be near each other by location (a traditional street team) or they can be interest-based and global
DebiDesigns joined the room
moogancreations asks, how often would you like us to contact you for updates, daily, weekly?
stellaloella: that's a great question! :)
sarawearsskirts: i'd love a good weekly update from teams
sarawearsskirts: that way i can keep your profile page current
sarawearsskirts: (every day is a bit too often...)
JennyBunny left the room
sarawearsskirts: what i would love is for everyone here to check their team page after this mtg to see if everything on the page is accurate and current
ZestyB asks, is it easier to do a full update each time or just the differences?
CircaCeramics joined the room
sarawearsskirts: full updates are fine. if you're just adding a small handful of members, you don't need a full updates, but generally giving me as much info as you have is awesome
sarawearsskirts: when sending a list of members, it's pretty key to send them in paragraph form, with commas between the usernames.
xiane asks, for places with big states who have local meetups, is there a way to have their "chapters" designated on the street teams page?
ArtisticJen left the room
sarawearsskirts: sure. some of the states have multiple chapters on that page -
sarawearsskirts: washington state comes to mind http://team.etsy.com/profilest/wa.shtml
sarawearsskirts: there's seattle and spokane
LolaBee joined the room
sarawearsskirts: two different teams in the same state.
AbbieRoad asks, how can we update the profile/ events etc? Mine just says coming soon
stellaloella: (please come on in and take a seat by clicking a white square)
sarawearsskirts: once you all decide on this information as a team, you get it updated by emailing me at teams@etsy.com and i go in and plug in the info
sarawearsskirts: okay - the next few questions i'll post the question, then open the floor for discussion on the question asked
sarawearsskirts: (please stay on topic)
ZestyB asks, interested in hearing ways that other teams keep team members connected/active
HeyMichelle: back
abitabite: could you have a collaborative blog?
abitabite: or do carnivales in blogging like the etsy bloggers team is doing
sarawearsskirts: currently, some groups are using blogs, googlegroups, yahoo groups, and email lists
supastarr: mailing list
xiane: Etsy Green and Clean does creative challenges
sarawearsskirts: and flickr groups
moogancreations: plushteam is still new, but we are using flickr and our blog
stellaloella: the st louis street team now meets monthly, at the same location on the 3rd thursday of every month
StephanaDesigns: MoE has a blog,myspace,flickr group,etc..
dismantled: Yahoo groups have been good for discussion for Trashion & EtsyBloggers, but for the Louisiana team, the Yahoo group is pretty dead, despite best efforts
awesomeadornments left the room
xiane: flickr, yahoo groups, team chats
zblankets left the room
sarawearsskirts: philly meets once a month
sarawearsskirts: in person
StephanaDesigns: Moe has google group,we use it as our business forum
xiane: Charlotte NC meets once a month, too
supastarr: southwest ohio meets once a month for a hobby night
CircaCeramics: our gocco team a blog in the works, flickr & googgle group...We also polled people who signed up & asked of the interest in participating
stellaloella: EtsyLou also has an email mailing list, which everyone is open to send info to (we all agreed to that)
moogancreations: plsuhteam alos penciled in workshop time next week
sarawearsskirts: that's a great idea, circaceramics - asking a level of involvement at the start
sarawearsskirts: the workshops are available for teams to meet - just email teams@etsy.com and we'll work it out
supastarr asks, what are some ways that our street teams can promote etsy?
StephanaDesigns: I have trouble with involvement, wish there was more in MoE!
magnoliastreet: I'd love to be on a Chicago street team. I'll e-mail. Thanks!
daniellexo: m.i.c.e. (michigan) has googlegroups
CircaCeramics: we trimmed the team down to (I thionk) 30 from 77
daniellexo: we also meet for a skill share once a month
xiane: skill shares are such an awesome idea
daniellexo: they are so fun!
sarawearsskirts: skill shares are awesome. they can also be open to the community
magnoliastreet: Circa, how do you "trim down the team"? I mean, do people volunteer to leave? Or do you send them from the group? If so, what are the criteria? I'm interested in hearing how that's done.
hobocampcrafts left the room
stellaloella: making a batch of promo items to give away at local events where people are vending
stellaloella: or requesting an official etsy promo pack
xiane: for supa's question, the Charlotte team put together a craft show just for etsy folks
daniellexo: i have a way that we do it with the etsy metals team
dismantled: local groups could write press releases specific to their group/area and send to local newspapers
xiane: we want to have educational and promotional material there for shoppers to look over
daniellexo: if you dont post in our message boards for over 3 months you are out
magnoliastreet: Ah, OK.
magnoliastreet: That makes sense.
daniellexo: that gets rid of the hangers on
magnoliastreet: I see.
magnoliastreet: :)
LolaBee left the room
daniellexo: is that legal sara?
sarawearsskirts: press releases are a good start, dismantled.
sarawearsskirts: if someone doesn't respond for a period of several months, i think it's acceptable to say they're off the team
CircaCeramics: magnolia - MagicJelly & I sent flickrmail to all the people who signed up with a questionaire
stellaloella: there's also a group on Flickr where you can see photos of what other teams are doing: http://www.flickr.com/groups/teametsy/
sarawearsskirts: and let them know they can rejoin if they want to be active
magnoliastreet: in Chicago, I know the Chicago Reader would totally carry things about Etsy, such as street team meetings.
magnoliastreet: Or sales.
nitelily3 left the room
KathyysKrafts joined the room
sarawearsskirts: local papers are awesome
sarawearsskirts: weeklies and such
sarawearsskirts: especially if your team has an event
magnoliastreet: Chicago Reader is a weekly.
magnoliastreet: Thanks, jared! I like floating. ;)
abitabite asks, is thee workshop available nowfor teams?
supastarr: ask/Is there anything specific we should include in press packs to local papers?
abitabite: thanks jared its much easier to read this way
sarawearsskirts: yep!
sarawearsskirts: (oh, good question, supastarr)
dismantled: a lot of weekly papers have shopping sections too, with local sales, deals, events. another group similar to a team I'm a member of, the New Orleans Craft Mafia, has gotten mentions in those sections before
HeyMichelle: always make sure the event details are all there: location, when, where
Lemonade: FEST was in here last night, it was great!
abitabite: umm sorry about my typing guys hahah that is great people should use this feature for theme street temas to meet - you could do skill share that way with the webcam maybe
magnoliastreet: time, date, location, what's going on, who's running it, contact info, a web site link, cost of entry, cost of being there, maps, parking suggestions, public trans links for those of us in cities.
sarawearsskirts: we're planning on including information and resources on how to write good press releases in the team page soon
HeyMichelle: write a short release that's fun to read and gives a sense of who you are
ZestyB: the local college & smaller radio stations too
stellaloella: matt & the marketing team will be providing some info about how to write a press release, hopefully
AbbieRoad left the room
Lemonade: awesome
magnoliastreet: my last post was on what to put in the press release.
stellaloella: (jinx, sara)
sarawearsskirts: :)
sarawearsskirts: okay... more thoughts on press releases?
magnoliastreet: sara, did you see my post a few seconds ago?
HeyMichelle: make sure to get paper press in early
HeyMichelle: they have long lead times
magnoliastreet: agree with HeyMichelle.
ZestyB: there is pretty good into on net about general press releases
sarawearsskirts: very good.
dismantled: if it's a regular (monthly, weekly) event let them know, they'll often add that
magnoliastreet: I used to work at a newspaper for years. The earlier you get your info in, the better. Plus, you might get a full-scale story on it, including art, if they have time to set up a photo shoot.
DebiDesigns left the room
DebiDesigns left the room
sarawearsskirts: wow, that's good to know, magnolia
magnoliastreet: yup.
xiane: most radio stations will read a community announcement about any events, too
magnoliastreet: (psst...hire me for etsy pr ... )
supastarr: Are there plans to have the street team pages look a little more like the 'buy' page with links to the specific shops? Teams could pull together and buy advertising and link to pages that represented them.
HeyMichelle: remember who your audience is (who do you want to come to this event?) and target the places that they are looking
xiane: you just need to get them in early. like newspapers. :)
quirke joined the room
sarawearsskirts: supastarr, that's a good segue to the next question
stellaloella: (come on in and take a seat by clicking a white square)
sarawearsskirts: there are new, amazing team pages in the works, but for now...
JMNPOTTERY asks, Are street team shops still a possibility?
sarawearsskirts: sure. but they are a lot of work and require a lot of planning
sarawearsskirts: much like your own etsy shop
HeyMichelle: trashion has a shop...
HeyMichelle: finding it now...
sarawearsskirts: i recommend teams gel a bit before diving into a team shop
dismantled: www.etsytrashion.com redirects to it
magnoliastreet: good idea, sara.
JMNPOTTERY: thanks :)
CircaCeramics: i agree!
sarawearsskirts: they can be totally awesome! but they can be disasters if not handled well
HeyMichelle: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5185762
abitabite: i think a shop is better than fees (just me)
quirke: someone mentioned the possibility of a buyer street team... what would that be all about?
moogancreations: I wish there was a way to create a store, allow team meambers to list new items but keep the credit card information private to the team treasurer
HeyMichelle: having a shop requires a well organized leader and/or team
jared left the room
magnoliastreet: bye jared
sarawearsskirts: you can raise money for ads and have a central place to send people, which makes them nice
HeyMichelle: whoa, buyer street team would be awesome!
ZestyB: it's also a nice was to use Etsy Mini on the team blog
HeyMichelle: are you the leader, quirke?
CircaCeramics: would everything have to be in the same price range?
sarawearsskirts: not necessarily, circa
quirke: no i'm not, i don't think there is a buyer street team yet
sarawearsskirts: philly'
CircaCeramics: cool!
stellaloella: i think it could be up to each member what they would want to donate to the team shop
quirke: i'm not sure what a buyer street team would do
sarawearsskirts: philly's original idea for having a shop was sample packs of all our stuff
ZestyB: and an informal team list - as hearts
xiane: oooh, that's a good idea
abitabite: thast what i wonder too quirke
ZestyB: Buy in bulk?
stellaloella: quirke -- buy stuff? ;)
HeyMichelle: yeah, what would be the goals?
quirke: ha ha ha, i do that already stella
supastarr: what if it was just a team page - the listings in the page would be links to each members shop.
quirke: okey dokey sara
sarawearsskirts: a cool thing to do with a team shop is use the favorites to make an etsy mini of stuff from people on the team
dismantled: buyer street team could pass out fliers, talk about their great Etsy purchases...maybe even like a mini home trunk show to show off all their finds to friends and spread the word
sarawearsskirts: a buyer team could tell other people who don't make stuff how cool handmade stuff is?
dismantled: exactly
ZestyB: I like dismantled'd idea!
Lemonade: I was wondering how to do that Sara...i don't know why i didn't think of using a team shop like that
sarawearsskirts: they're professional appreciators!
magnoliastreet left the room
HeyMichelle: would a buyer team want to go through a bunch of trouble?
quirke: i love the idea but i'd be concerned a buyer ST would be deluged with spam from sellers
sarawearsskirts: yeah, team shops are great for making awesome etsy mini's
dismantled: people hang out to go shopping at the mall all the time, why not do the same thing with Etsy?
sarawearsskirts: and you can have info on the team in the announcement
ZestyB: mark the items as favorites
HeyMichelle: maybe it could be really simple, like making treasuries, contests
sarawearsskirts: right, zesty
abitabite: oh oh i know a buyer team could do that idea i was on the forums once where they get together and completely buy out someones shop as a surprise to that seller
sarawearsskirts: ha, that's awesome, abita
abitabite: you can test it out on me if you like... you'd only need a team of 5 hahah
quirke: lol a buyer street team like that had better have all rich members
HeyMichelle: yeah, right!
dismantled: maybe a buyer team could be anonymous? or closed somehow to prevent spam from sellers?
sarawearsskirts: (is matt here?)
stellaloella: good point, dismantled
quirke: i think that would be the way to go, dismantled
abitabite: i wouldnt want to spam the buyer tam
abitabite: they would all tell each other and then no one would buy from you
sarawearsskirts: right - protecting the buyer team members would be important
xiane: spamming the buyer team would seem like a kiss of death!
ZestyB: The NEST shop has all of the team members hearted; then - daily - I go thru and update the hearted items so the etsy mini on our blog is updated.
stellaloella: we don't want anyone spamming anyone on Etsy
HeyMichelle: someone would want to spam them!
matt: hi sorry
matt: i was on a call
sarawearsskirts: okay, cool
stellaloella: (i think matt is multitasking, sara)
moogancreations asks, could you eloborate on etsy helping us make/pay for promos?
stellaloella: (oh. haha)
quirke: i should convo some of the other buyers who frequent the fora and see if they're interested
matt: hi
HeyMichelle: yes, let's talk about promos
abitabite: do it quirke ;)
ZestyB: The Secret Shopper Team!
sarawearsskirts: promos!
matt: was that the question for me
sarawearsskirts: (uh huh)
HeyMichelle: just fyi everyone, I'm an admin and I work in the labs
ZestyB: I need promos
stellaloella: you can always request an official etsy promo pack using this form: http://www.etsy.com/promo_request.php
abitabite: buyers could do reviews haha
matt: well, we will send you proomos when you do an event
quirke: what's in an official etsy promo pack?
supastarr: it's awesome.
abitabite: good q
matt: we will also subsidize teams with craft fairs and advertising
anda joined the room
matt: we handle these on a case by case basis
matt: email sara
abitabite: you mean fairs at etsy matt?
ZestyB: or use form
matt: yes
art4milkbones joined the room
abitabite: okay i understand
sarawearsskirts: so, teams@etsy is a good email for when you have a fair or an event that your team wants to do
sarawearsskirts: and you can use the promo form
matt: you need some help from etsy
matt: i meant to say
matt: if you need
KathyysKrafts asks, how long does it take to receive a promor pack or how far in advance should we request one?
matt: lly about a week
sarawearsskirts: give us as much notice as possible
quirke: can teams outside the US get a promo pack?
sarawearsskirts: a week or more
matt: Manoela is pretty much on top of mailing
sarawearsskirts: awesome
matt: but we make everything by hand
matt: and we are booked with our own wvents solidly though the end of the year
matt: so the more notice the better
HeyMichelle: I would think teams anywhere can get a promo pack if we get enough notice.
abitabite asks, what is in the promo pack (for quirke)
quirke: can international teams get a promo pack?
sarawearsskirts: sure
CircaCeramics: i was just going to ask that!
quirke: thanks abita
stellaloella: promo packs can vary, right matt?
matt: posters, stickers, tracts, postcards, and assorted fun promos
matt: yes
sarawearsskirts: anda dreams up awesome promos everyday!
matt: depending on what we are making ath the time
quirke: ha ha, tracts to spread the etsy religion
HeyMichelle: the etsy promos are awesome!
matt: we usually send smaller, more hand-passable items
stellaloella: the tracts are pretty amazing, if you haven't seen them yet
sarawearsskirts: they are totally awesome
anda: right now we are on a lip balm kick
CircaCeramics: Those (tracts) are pretty freaking great btw
matt: yes
abitabite: whats a tract (feels dumb)
matt: I wanted to do those since before Etsy launched
stellaloella: a tracts is a small booklet used for street corner evangelism
HeyMichelle: the tract is like the religious tract things
supastarr: what! abit! we're in kentucky!
matt: you know those religious comic books that strangers hand you
CircaCeramics: lemme find a link
HeyMichelle: I hand them out like "have you accepted etsy as your personal savior?"
matt: www.chick.com
abitabite: ohhh i'm an aussie supa i dont undertsnad the bible belt hahaha
anda: we had vanessa's illustrator boyfriend make us a dead-on hilarious paraody of the chick publication ones
Lemonade asks, Is there a resource (on or off Etsy) for info about organizing a trunk show?
matt: of your own or at etsy labs
sarawearsskirts: michelle? labs?
stellaloella: (tracts in the foreground of this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stellaloella/819791766/in/pool-teametsy/ )
HeyMichelle: Yes, please send me a convo at HeyMichell
HeyMichelle: I mean HeyMichelle
craftyalien joined the room
Lemonade: our own
sarawearsskirts: if you want to organize one where you are, that's awesome, too!
anda: we have plans to put alot of Labs knowledge on the user wiki
matt: there are some at team.etsy.com
sarawearsskirts: oh, great!
matt: but not about trunk shows
daniellexo: ya! if a couple of you are in the same boutique in your area you can ask the boutique owner to help you out!
matt: but about putting on a show
daniellexo: or have one at a cafe
quirke: any advice on pulling together teams that are geographically far apart?
sarawearsskirts: you can email me and i can give you tips and point you in the right direction
abitabite: thanks stella
Lemonade: awesome, thanks Sara!
matt: we are hoping to flush out the resources page
matt: so that woudl be a good one to add
stellaloella: http://etsywiki.com is a great place to start gathering all the user-created info for these topics, actually
anda: quirke: yahoo groups
daniellexo: googlegroups is a good way to share photos/messages
anda: yahoo groups unifies teams
anda: and regular chat room meetings
stellaloella: if you all have tips or info to share, add it to the etsywiki site
sarawearsskirts: flickr groups also kin do frule
anda: and flickr, yes
anda: and a blogspot blog that has group administration
matt: I have to run to my next meeting
matt: see up soon
sarawearsskirts: bye matt
stellaloella: bye matt! thanks :)
dismantled: this is a good host your own trunk show how to
dismantled: http://venuszine.com/stories/diy_resources/754.php
anda: run, matt , run
Lemonade: bye!
HeyMichelle: bye matt
matt left the room
anda: score!
stellaloella: ah!
HeyMichelle: thanks for the link, dismantled
Lemonade: thanks dismantled, that's what i was looking for!
stellaloella: that was what i've been looking for. cinnamon told me about that article
stellaloella: and i couldn't find it :/
stellaloella: thansk dismantled
dismantled: i think there's some others around the various crafty sites that i might be able to dig up too
HeyMichelle: can't wait to read the article...
KathyysKrafts left the room
abitabite asks, what are the temrs of creating a street team? Are there things that can't be used as a theme for a team?
anda: craftster prob has info
stellaloella: Cinnamon Cooper (who wrpte that article) organizes a big craft show in chicago called the DIY Trunk Show
anda: they have everything
sarawearsskirts: unless they're totally offensive, you can pretty much start a team on anything
sarawearsskirts: just use common sense :)
EtsyLabs joined the room
xiane: michelle, our fart jokes team is covered!
abitabite: ive been hanging out with humbleglory today all hope for common sense is gone
quirke: who has control over a team? can you remove people from a team?
xiane: :D
HeyMichelle: jeez, my spelling
Lemonade: our team admin bascially appointed herself, but it's awesome b/c she's doing a great job
sarawearsskirts: i can remove people from a team. if it's a problem, i work it case by case
HeyMichelle: some teams remove people who are inactive for a certain amount of time
craftyalien left the room
abitabite: i think thats a good idea michelle
xiane: I "run" egcg, but I also have people who help me. And it's more like "organize" than run
supastarr: Um. This is silly, but what is the size for the street team banner?
HeyMichelle: yeah, you don't want hangers-on. only solid people
Lemonade: yea, PaperScissorsArt has people under her
quirke: yes, that's what i'm concerend about heymichelle, our ST has like a hundred inactive people on it
CircaCeramics: wow
HeyMichelle: how many active?
stellaloella: street team profile banners are 760 x 100 pixels, just like shops
sarawearsskirts: i definitelty want to help keep the profile pages so that all the members listed are ACTIVE and want to be members
ZestyB: Is it spam to contact them to check in,etc?
supastarr: thx
quirke: from what i've seen so far (i just joined) about 20really active people, and maybe 30 more that check in once in a while
moogancreations: i have unofficially made myself team leader since creating plushteam, there has been no cou' since i've started
sarawearsskirts: i think one convo asking if they're still interested in partipcpating is okay
HeyMichelle: someone (xiane, maybe) said that people have to post to the message board like once every 3 weeks. and then if not they're off. could be a nice way of doing it instead of "hey, slacker, hit the road"
sarawearsskirts: since they elected to be put on the team page in the first place
xiane: egcg did a clear-out a while back, and asked everyone to check in with the yahoo group. If they didn't, I convoed them. If they didn't answer, I considered them withdrawn.
sarawearsskirts: xiane, that's a good process
ZestyB: thanks for the ideads
quirke: ugh, that's like 240 people to contact
CircaCeramics: We (IL?CHICAGO) just contacted everyone via convo - some have answered...
xiane: I thought it was pretty fair.
ZestyB: yes it is
abitabite: xiane is clever
HeyMichelle: do you have a mailing list/email list?
xiane: I hate to kick anyone out, especially if they didn't get the yahoo message
HeyMichelle: or you may try a post in street teams and have active people keep it bumped
quirke: i don''t think so but then again i just joined
xiane: thank you! *curtseys*
abitabite: might want to add that if you are going away or something to let the team know so they dont dlete you
moogancreations: 3 strikes their out maybe?
ZestyB: yes I do on googls docs so it can be shared with others
StephanaDesigns: I still have trouble getting all of MoE guys to check in,I email, convo and leave messages on all our groups!
stellaloella: for the St Louis team, we asked everyone to re-up their membership by sending their email addy to a team gmail acct
xiane: good plan, stella
abitabite: its because they are M stephana hahahah you have to ask more than once
quirke: what's the size of the average street team, in terms of members? just curious
abitabite: j/k
moogancreations: I like that too
HeyMichelle: yeah, I guess if someone is booted, it's not forever, they could always come back
ZestyB: That's good too since we have just one convo at a time
supastarr: We have about 10 active members
xiane: *nod* that's my philosophy too, Michelle
abitabite: supa we = ohio?
supastarr: southwest ohio, yeah
xiane: We've had a few people leave because of family issues, etc - but they can always come back
stellaloella: i'm not sure what the average size is -- some are very small but active, and some are large but relatively inactive
sarawearsskirts: the teams really range in size. i think the most active teams have usually a core of 10-15 active members
stellaloella: i think action counts more than numbers
xiane: egcg is about 40
sarawearsskirts: and a bunch of other names on a list
sarawearsskirts: but they do vary greatly
xiane: but our active base is probably about half that
quirke: geez trans-canada has 243 i think. we need some serious pruning
CircaCeramics: Gocco is about 29
sarawearsskirts: i think smaller teams are sweeter :)
ZestyB: Boston is 20ish
sarawearsskirts: you spend less time worrying about membership then, and get more done
Lemonade: we have around 20 right now but we are brand new...like not even a week old
ZestyB: NEST is a bazillion
quirke: i would prefer a smaller team too
HeyMichelle: well, canada is a whole country though! I think UK is big too
CircaCeramics: smaller=easier to help manage too!
StephanaDesigns: MKoE about 130,but only like 40 who actually respond!
sarawearsskirts: ther'es a team for ALL of europe
sarawearsskirts: :)
quirke: whoah
xiane: ...wow.
StephanaDesigns: MKoE=MoE
abitabite: i think etsy moms is prtty huge too
quirke: there's 130 men on Etsy? call me surprised, ha ha ha
Lemonade: me too
abitabite: i think i could name 30 men on etsy... yeh what does that say about me
quirke: sez you like to name things
hazelwoodhill joined the room
StephanaDesigns: No,there are alot more,I stopped recruting and let them find us now!
ZestyB: are you stalking the MoE team Abit?
abitabite: or men...
Lemonade: I don't even know if i could name 30!
abitabite: only about 4 of them zesty
dismantled asks, What's the deal with street teams that promote through a specific website/promote another website at the same time? a Myspace street team was recently brought up for instance. But what if a Lov.li or Mintd team was proposed? those sites compete with Etsy
ZestyB: oh that's ok then
abitabite: well 8 if you count all of mixed species
ZestyB: ha
stellaloella: excellent question
xiane: oooh.
sarawearsskirts: yep
CircaCeramics: hm.
quirke: hmmm, interesting idea
sarawearsskirts: basically, the point of an etsy street team is to promote etsy shops
HeyMichelle: hmmm. I wonder if the other sites would even allow that?
CircaCeramics: Um, it's kinda weird, no?
anda: ...and Etsy as a whole
sarawearsskirts: so a lov.li or mint'd shop etsy team makes little to no sense
HeyMichelle: because they'd be using that other site to promote etsy
xiane: I would agree with that. seems... weird. and not cool.
sarawearsskirts: we had a team requiring people to sign up at another selling venue in order to join, and we decided that wasn't very cool
StephanaDesigns: agree!
anda: but you can't promote Etsy on Mintd
dismantled: well, but even the Myspace team doesnt make sense to me. because probably half the sellers on Etsy have a Myspace account to promote their shop...a team that large kind of becomes pointless
sarawearsskirts: etsy's policy is we allow discussion of other sites. that's fine.
quirke: yeah, i don't think it makes a whole lot of sense either because it divides attention between your shops on different sites.
sarawearsskirts: but not promotion
thefunkyfelter joined the room
anda: (you can't even use the word etsy in your profile, as i keenly know)
sarawearsskirts: no, the myspace team makes little sens e to me, either
abitabite: poor anda
anda: ha
sarawearsskirts: i think it kind of dropped off in the forums, no?
sarawearsskirts: no one from the myspace team ever emailed me
dismantled: i dunno... maybe it made sense to no one else either!
abitabite: hahah
sarawearsskirts: ha! that's what we figured. :)
sarawearsskirts: good question, though.
HeyMichelle: yeah, well, the myspace team might just be being friends with people on myspace. no need for a team
abitabite asks, is anyone using facebook as means of street team communication
HeyMichelle: there should just be one massive myspace thread
moogancreations: nope
HeyMichelle: and everyone adds everyone and that is the team. end of story
Please vote: do you use facebook for team communication?
abitabite: or no myspace at all yay (/myspace hate)
sarawearsskirts: not that i know of, although seattle's using meetup.com now, which i think is cool
StephanaDesigns: no,though some MoE's have accounts and add each other
stellaloella: i LOVE meetup.com
HeyMichelle: yeah, I wish myspace would go away
anda: meetup is awesome
stellaloella: (plus they brought us ice cream sandwiches once)
xiane: does meetup.com still cost?
dismantled: i think sweetyprize sent out Trashion trunk show invites via facebook but thats about it
abitabite: i dont really use my facebook but i would say thee is huge otential there for communication as a tema
Vote results: 0 yay, quirke: ok so resources for organizing your street team include yahoo groups, flickr groups, blogs, myspace, facebook, personal websites, uhh, am i forgetting anything?

xiane: we really have a lot of tools at our fingertips.
sarawearsskirts: we're all excited about the team pages
HeyMichelle: I think you can just start a chat room. you can provide a password if you want
Lemonade: yea
stellaloella: chat rooms can be used whenever, but currently the Workshop needs to be scheduled
sarawearsskirts: chat rooms you don't have to schedule with us - you can make your own by clicking 'chat rooms:' in the forums
sarawearsskirts: workshops you need to schedule
CircaCeramics: yay!
abitabite: if youre going to get a website for your team choose a host that provides FREE phpbb support
