campviii: ask/ how do you get team logos on to your listings/store?
sarawearsskirts: (aww, thanks, lanis!)
lanisvintage: yw
springcartdesigns left the room
daniellexo: hehe i asked a question
sarawearsskirts: campvii - you mean an image the team has designed?
campviii: yes
sarawearsskirts: you might have to ask your team's leader about that
sarawearsskirts: you can include it in your banner
campviii: ok
sarawearsskirts: or if you have an extra photo spot in your listings
sarawearsskirts: that's a nice idea, to unify the team's member shops a bit
sarawearsskirts: very cool
daniellexo asks, Any teams in here working on doing a craft show together soon?
lanisvintage: i need to include that in my listings
lanisvintage: the team logo
rikrak: in ecoetsy - we have a great little birdie pic we try to put in our last listing!
sarawearsskirts: the mason dixon crafters and the philadelphia team are doing a joint show next month!
iheartthatdance: No - we're not geographically situated for that :(
greenlupa: I just posed that to my team
lookability: A lot of the REST people are involved in Spring Bada Bing (richmond ) ... though I'm not directly involved.
iheartthatdance: But we (CSST) did do TulipMania recently!!
daniellexo: you can do one in the virtual labs if you are a global team :)
iheartthatdance: It was like an internal craft show -- we all did tulip themed crafts :)
sarawearsskirts: iheartthatdance, global teams can join up to do joint events, too
sarawearsskirts: definitely
sacredoak: daniellexo how would that work?
iheartthatdance: how would you go about that?
sarawearsskirts: danielle is the queen of the teams in the virtual labs
sarawearsskirts: you can talk to her about those events - there are so many possibilities
xiane: virtual trunk show!
BrooklynFudge joined the room
rikrak: oh i love the idea of a virtual trunk show
xiane: EGCG did one and it was very successful
iheartthatdance: how does that work? do we just "book" space here?
sarawearsskirts: here's an article with all the details: http://www.etsy.com/storque/section/howTos/article/team-tips-using-the-virtual-labs/1428/
daniellexo: yep you can book a space
sacredoak: hmm intreasting
daniellexo: and then perhaps take turns showing your items
iheartthatdance: TY sarawearsskirts and daniellexo!
sarawearsskirts: you can find all the Etsy teams articles by clicking "etsy teams" in the featured columns link down the lefthand side of the storque
sacredoak: *takes some notes*
rikrak: thanks for the link!
daniellexo: offering some kind of promo would be a great way to get people to come out to your show!
sarawearsskirts: my pleasure!
iheartthatdance: OK, bookmarked before it flies off the page :)
sarawearsskirts: http://www.etsy.com/storque/author/EtsyTeams/
sarawearsskirts: is a link to all the Etsy teams articles
iheartthatdance: \ask Is it possible to get our team events/sales published in the Storque?
sarawearsskirts: or you can search "etsy teams" within the storque to get all the new news.
daniellexo: whoa did someone just come in the room named "brooklynfudge" ?
iheartthatdance: BAH! I always do that wrong :P
daniellexo: hehe
sarawearsskirts: iheartthatdance, yes, your team leader can submit a blurb for the storque teams digest
BrooklynFudge: Yes
sarawearsskirts: ha
sarawearsskirts: you're danielle's new BFF
daniellexo: do you do deliveries?
daniellexo: hahaha
sacredoak: We are geting ready to do a Photo book of our team and members its like a photo directory it will have the persons shop addy on the bottom of their page
BrooklynFudge: Yes I sure do
iheartthatdance: About how far in advance of the event should we do that?
jillhannah asks, what sorts of "team jobs" are absolutely necessary to have people fill, and how do you convince people to fill them?
rikrak: ;) good questions
iheartthatdance: ;)
sarawearsskirts: we have some people who have lots of team experience in here, maybe they have some advice?
xiane: cry. pleade.
sarawearsskirts: montezumamudd, xiane?
sarawearsskirts: haha
xiane: look cute.
xiane: :D
FishOnTheWall joined the room
iheartthatdance: beg. offer cookies.
daniellexo: "you seem really great at organizing... can you take over the blog?"
daniellexo: compliment first. request second.
xiane: Actually, I just flatter 'em
daniellexo: :)
iheartthatdance: Ha! That actually knid of worked on me :P
xiane: if they suggest something, that's their project
montezumamudd: All our position were filled voluntarily.
rikrak: ha i heart!
jillhannah: what jobs need filing?
sarawearsskirts: jillhannah - a blog keeper
xiane: I have a co-leader, because our team is intense :)
jillhannah: I have my list, but I totally made it up/pulled it out of my ass
iheartthatdance: jillhannah it depends on what your team is doing
sarawearsskirts: someone in charge of accepting new members and getting them caught up?
sacredoak: we dont have any jobs yet we are still setteling in ;)
montezumamudd: Shopkeeper, if you have a team shop; Webmaster, if you have a website; Blogmaster if you have a blog.
xiane: we have people who mentor new members
iheartthatdance: at CSST we run a daily promo thread, so we needed people for that
sarawearsskirts: it all depends on your team's goals
daniellexo: its always good to have a snackmaster as well
daniellexo: for meetings
sarawearsskirts: xiane, that's a wonderful idea - mentors within teams
xiane: and we have people who run promos
Kae1Crafts joined the room
daniellexo: haha
xiane: it's a new thing we're doing
rikrak: oh i love that mentoring idea!
xiane: and it is popular :)
sacredoak: mmm snacks lol
greenlupa: So do I
BrooklynFudge: I need that
montezumamudd: Graphics person for all ads and promos.
sacredoak: mentors are great ;)
sarawearsskirts: good one, montezumamudd
iheartthatdance: I vote BrooklynFudge for Universal Snackmaster
BrooklynFudge: OK
sarawearsskirts: for the philly team, i'm kind of their idea person at this point
xiane: I do a lot of the work for EGCG, but I also do a lot of delegating
sarawearsskirts: running a team means lots of delegation
sarawearsskirts: for success
sarawearsskirts: otherwise it's easy to get burned out
xiane: that was a hard lesson for me ;)
sarawearsskirts: me, too, xiane!
Kae1Crafts left the room
rikrak: indeed - delegating...tough!
sacredoak: i know some State and regonal teams have people that take over certain areas of the state regonal leaders
iheartthatdance: I can think of a couple of team leaders who are experiencing that right now :)
rikrak: ;)
sarawearsskirts: jillhannah - do you feel these are good answers for your very good question?
jillhannah: yeah, I'm trying to delegate whatever people will friggin' take
sarawearsskirts: are we ready for a new question?
sarawearsskirts: haha, good call!
xiane: regionally - the Carolinas have three teams
jillhannah: does any team have a press person?
lookability: \can a team invite/court someone or is that spammy?
jillhannah: that's one I've been pushing for
iheartthatdance: \msg daniellexo OK great -- we just don't want say, a sale announcment, to be too far in advance of the actual sale, kwim?
iheartthatdance: DAMN!
iheartthatdance: I suck at this
lookability: me too
sarawearsskirts: that would be a good one - maybe someone on the team with experience writing press releases
xiane: Jill, my co-leader Di does a lot of our press stuff
sacredoak: texas team has people who do east west soth central and north then the dalles team is seaperate
sarawearsskirts: iheartthatdance, it's the other slash - /
rikrak asks, ithnk there are always problems, *virtually* with autonomy - once a job is delegated - i always find myself worried about checking in with the leader - to make sure we're on track - anyone? (i.e. i over burden the leader! :)
iheartthatdance: TY sarawearsskirts :) I do KNOW that, but somehow my fingers have acquired their own brain :P
greenlupa: I'm basicallyt he press person for my team, was a newspaper ed for almost a decade
sarawearsskirts: it's okay!
iheartthatdance: hear hear rikrak!
sarawearsskirts: very cool, greenlupa!
greenlupa: I just need to figure out more ways to use the skills!
sarawearsskirts: okay, there are a bunch of good questions, so we can move on, it's that's okay!
sacredoak: I dont stress ver it becuse i plan to interview those wanting to do jobs once we get a list ready.
sarawearsskirts: (that's what is awesome about teams - you can play into people's strengths and weaknesses and be awesome)
greenlupa asks, How do you handle when a troublemaker shows up?
xiane: people will often fall into positions, too.
sacredoak: simple ask them to leave
jillhannah: ooh, good question green!
sarawearsskirts: this is a tough one (and let's all remember not to call out in anyway)
xiane: that's a touchy one sometimes
sarawearsskirts: ideas?
daniellexo: I have an idea
iheartthatdance: no, I don't think it's simple at all.
greenlupa: Convo private?
daniellexo: Give the troublemaker a task.
daniellexo: Direct their energy.
iheartthatdance: hmmmm, interesting....
sacredoak: if they cause you and the team greif ask them to leave then if they refuse ban them i
greenlupa: What happens when the energy is negative and afflicting others?
jillhannah: that totally worked in mine, danielle! mine wasn't so much a troublemaker as a person who just wanted to be in charge all the time, so I put her in charge of something. Two days later she said she couldn't handle it and pooped out!
greenlupa: LOL!
sacredoak: ilol
xiane: I try to counsel them through the problem if possible... if it isn't working out, team counseling, then I guess I'd ask them privately to leave
xiane: but most people like that have just left
rikrak: ;)
xiane: they end up bored :D
iheartthatdance: i'd say troublemakers often have their own agenda
RobWhite joined the room
sarawearsskirts: and if they're really persistently terrible, unfortunately i'd give them no opportunities to interact with the group, ie, use private forums, etc.
sarawearsskirts: hi, robwhite!
xiane: hi RobWhite!
iheartthatdance: if you refuse to play into that agenda, they'll probably disappear on their own
jillhannah: speaking of troublemakers!
RobWhite: Shhhh, there's a meeting!
sarawearsskirts: that's true, iheartthatdance!
greenlupa: Definitely. The problem with private is it's like we've left Etsy
RobWhite: (P.S. hi)
iheartthatdance: hi RobWhite!
sarawearsskirts: yeah, it's a hard situation, greenlupa
iheartthatdance: probably there's no cut and dried solution -- team drama can be VERY frustrating.
xiane: I tell my team members when they join that they're still held to Etsy standards
xiane: and if they call out or cause trouble, they won't be welcome
sarawearsskirts: that's a good line, xiane
sarawearsskirts: very true, too
mainemade joined the room
sarawearsskirts: the teams are a part of the Etsy community
greenlupa: That is. Suggestions for wording they aren't welcome?
greenlupa: Nicely of course.
sarawearsskirts: :)
xiane: "This isn't working out, and I think that this team isn't a good fit for you."
IndieMoon joined the room
greenlupa: Awesome, Xiane!
sacredoak: i tell my members that their is no bad name calling, flamming or negitivity they know if they violte this they will be placed in a "time out" for a week if they show better behavior they are back if they keep it up its about soory we cant have you on the team anymore
rikrak: good thinking
sarawearsskirts: you could say something along the lines of This Team wants to concentrate on being productive and positive, and a pleasant experience, those wishing to cuase anytthing else are asked to leave.
JetTeam joined the room
sarawearsskirts: or something
iheartthatdance: that is really good!
sarawearsskirts: hello, jet and indiemoon and mainemade!
xiane: always spin it positive if you can
sarawearsskirts: welcome to the meet and greet!
IndieMoon: Hello!
iheartthatdance: BAH! which slash is it again?
ArtifactBingo joined the room
jillhannah: the one by the shift key
iheartthatdance: TY :D
sarawearsskirts: with the ?
xiane: remember that often troublemakers don't realize what they're doing
sarawearsskirts: it's /
jillhannah: yes. the one on the ?
xiane: they're in their own head and in their own agenda
sarawearsskirts: conversation looks silly)
greenlupa: Unfortunately sometimes they know exactly what they're doing.
xiane: that's true, too - but it's always best to act like you're giving 'em the benefit of the doubt :D
sacredoak: actually they do know what they are doing, some people strive at making things difficult ;)
jillhannah asks, so are there any team rules and standards we newbie teams can place right away to help avoid trouble situations in the future?
daniellexo: sometimes you just have to ignore - and use your energy to do positive thigns
sarawearsskirts: i figured this was somewhat related
greenlupa: Oooh, good
sacredoak: yes
daniellexo: ignoring troublemakers usually gets them the most
sarawearsskirts: i'd say write a set of guidelines, expectations for team members
mainemade: This is my first time in the team forum and this may have already been discussed, but are there any plans to change how team shops are set up? Our team is not comfortable asking a single team member to be individually responsible for the financial account set-up. Thanks.
JewelsofLuxury joined the room
xiane: oh man. I have a huge piece of text I give all new members
sarawearsskirts: including being constructive and positive
daniellexo: we'd like to do that in the future maine
greenlupa: Oh, great idea Sara!
daniellexo: but now right now
daniellexo: unfortunately
sarawearsskirts: mainemade, would you mind typing your excellent question with an /ask before it so it'll go into the queue?
montezumamudd: I have a set of guidelines I send to new members.
sacredoak: I have a huge file i hand out to my newbies, me and my partner sat down and wrote it out before we advertised about the group
ElysianFields joined the room
sarawearsskirts: so we can come back to it?
rikrak: iyes
sarawearsskirts: very good, sacredoakj
sacredoak: We planned for every situation, plus i am in 3 other teams i observed on what to do and not what to do
jillhannah: sacred & xiane - I'd love to see your files/text hunks
sarawearsskirts: the arizona team has a line about how the group is something all the members voluntarily choose to be a part of, so it needs to be a pleasant experience for all
greenlupa: Me, too!
sarawearsskirts: i've always liked that
sacredoak: jill no problem
JewelsofLuxury: i would love to see it too!
xiane: jill, I can send you our text!
JetTeam: The JETs have worked on a new set of requirements that we are implemeting for our whole team, and it will be give to all me members when we start opening it again.
mainemade: ask: how do current teams handle one person managing their team shop, especially returns? Thanks.
ArtifactBingo left the room
rikrak: i like the like "we're volunteers" line
jillhannah: ooh, maybe post them to the teams forum thing
sarawearsskirts: sacred + xiane and montezuma, would you mind sharing those documents in the google group for team leaders?
sacredoak: convo me and i will get it to ya sometime today
xiane: jewels, send me a convo and i'll send it
sacredoak: Sure thing sara
xiane: yes!
xiane: I can do that!
montezumamudd: Can do!
jillhannah: brilliant!
greenlupa: Super helpful!!!
cooljewelrydesign joined the room
sarawearsskirts: great! let's move on
xiane: vroooom
iheartthatdance: lol
sarawearsskirts: thanks, everyone, for such great participation today!
sacredoak: I run a non profit organazation as well so i know lots of things ;)
iheartthatdance asks, how many teams have team shops?
sarawearsskirts: a good bunch - a couple dozen
sacredoak: not yet we dont
montezumamudd: The Mud Team has a shop
jillhannah: we voted against it
sarawearsskirts: maybe 15-20% of all teams
xiane: we have a team account, but not a shop
JetTeam: We do.
sarawearsskirts: it's a tricky, tricky thing
jillhannah: (we=EtsyChai)
iheartthatdance: are they mostly shops which are selling actual items?
cooljewelrydesign: Hello! is there a bead team I can join?? I am in Atlanta
xiane: we decided not to do a shop
iheartthatdance: or shops which heart items only?
sarawearsskirts: i actually advice new teams against it til they've been working together for a while
montezumamudd: Yes, The Mud Shop sells ceramics.
xiane: we use our team account to make a team mini and to promote
sarawearsskirts: i wrote a more indepth guide to how to run a team shop here: http://team.etsy.com/teamshops.html
rikrak: we have a shop at trashion - and a new transcanada shop
JewelsofLuxury: my team and i are just doing craft shows together...i think a shop would be a bit much to handle for us
sarawearsskirts: (it's on the guides page at http://team.etsy.com)
sierracreations joined the room
iheartthatdance: Oh I'd heard about the TCET one ;P
sacredoak: yep we are waiting on doing a shop I am working on getting a non profit tax number becuse the money will be used for team stuff it would be under "Donations"
sarawearsskirts: xiane, using a team account for minis is great!
xiane: It's super for our website - we just paste that in
sarawearsskirts: sacredoak, i'm curious about a team becoming a nonprofit
iheartthatdance: that's a bit what I was thinking about -- no financial stuff, just to have everyone in one place.
iheartthatdance: I think plushteam has one too?
sarawearsskirts: can i pick your brain about that later?
sarawearsskirts: i'm working on a list of all the teams with teamshops
rikrak: i'm interested in that too, sacred.
sarawearsskirts: it's important for any team considering opening one to read the guide for sure:
JetTeam left the room
sarawearsskirts: http://team.etsy.com/teamshops.html
jillhannah left the room
rikrak: yes - the guide was really helpful setting up the canada one!
JetTeam joined the room
greenlupa: MiniMakers doesn't have one and there are no plans for it in the immediate future.
cooljewelrydesign: i don't know how you guys communicate so fast...
sarawearsskirts: good, rikrak!
JetTeam: oops
sierracreations left the room
sarawearsskirts asks, how do team shops handle one person managing, especially returns?
ladramaqueen joined the room
rikrak: now getting items -that's another thing!
iheartthatdance: TY for the link! Bookmarked :)
FishOnTheWall left the room
sarawearsskirts: this varies by team, there is no right answer, the best i can do is say check the guide
iheartthatdance: I promise something soon rikrak! LOL
sarawearsskirts: when the new teams pages (the vastly improved ones) are launched, we may reconsider allowing teams to run shops, or change the process a bit
sarawearsskirts: but in the meanwhile, the guide is the best resource on team shops
sacredoak: sara it would be classified as a non profit group I wrote out what we would do for our communities how we would make a diffrence in them. Then we get the non profit status with the tax exempt number. Once we have this setting up a bank account and paypal will be easy. The money earned would go towar
rikrak: we're just starting out with the canada shop,... so far so good - but i know trashion has had to deal with that - but sorry - i don't run that shop.
FishOnTheWall joined the room
jillhannah joined the room
jillhannah asks, what kinds of events are good to get global teams started and solidified?
greenlupa: For us it was just a shared passion for our art.
sarawearsskirts: group sales,
sarawearsskirts: events in the virtual labs
xiane: team chats
iheartthatdance: CSST did TulipMania a couple of weeks ago -- it was great to get everyone involved.
sarawearsskirts: promoting each other on personal blogs, websites, word of mouth
iheartthatdance: Here's the link to the concept:
JetTeam: i agree chats are good for team building
sarawearsskirts: using the fact that you all live in different areas to your advantage
campviii left the room
iheartthatdance: http://www.flickr.com/groups/cottagestyle/discuss/72157603899432935/
rikrak: yes - i think we could use team chats as a great builder for transcanada - thought iheart?
iheartthatdance: I'd be in for that -- it's just good to get everyone communicating.
ladramaqueen left the room
sarawearsskirts: team chats are wonderful!
rikrak: trashion has a fun cocktail party in the forums about 2 times a month on a sunday night - just drop in and share!
iheartthatdance: CSST uses it's promo thread, basically.
sarawearsskirts: very good, rikrak!
xiane: promo threads are good, although they can be hard to keep up with
iheartthatdance: that sounds fun!
xiane: EAST has a fun thread, but wow does it get big!
greenlupa: Yes it does!!!
iheartthatdance: xiane I agree -- just pulling people together for chat is hard for us right now
sacredoak: we do mostly outside advertisng we go to the dark regions of the net lol
mainemade: ask: Are there upcoming plans to turn over content maintenance ownership to Team Leaders in the future? Our Maine team would like a page that we can add new members quickly and post upcoming workshops instantly. We have such enthusiasm from members but our team page is not current. Thanks.
sarawearsskirts: i'm always amazedb y how big some team's threads get!
sarawearsskirts: mainemade, yes
iheartthatdance: we have a large number of people who are not super comfortable with the tech-y side of things
sarawearsskirts: there is a plan to have a much more intregrated teams program built into the site
greenlupa: Boy so do we.
iheartthatdance: forums seem a little less scary than chat
sarawearsskirts: but it won't be launched for a couple months or so
JetTeam: We have to have a daily thread to keep up!
sarawearsskirts: (we don't have a date)
JewelsofLuxury: yes :) the threads get a little tiresome at times :)
iheartthatdance: ooh sounds exciting sarawearsskirts!
rikrak: im so glad about the turning over of the pages, sarawears! that'd be super!
greenlupa: We post open-ended things in our daily chat so people can drop in, post and read what they want and go
mainemade: That's great! I know it's got to be a huge undertaking with all the teams there are.
xiane: another thing you can do to get your team together is to make a private forum or group

sarawearsskirts: mainemade - yes! we know it's a pain and not super efficient as it is
xiane: both EGCG and EAST have one, and it's been crucial for getting us togethere
greenlupa: Other than the google or Flikr is there another private option?
sarawearsskirts: but when we have a new system of pages for the community and teams, we want it done right
xiane: obviously today is "add an e to the end of words day"
iheartthatdance: i didn't even realize private forum was an option?
sarawearsskirts: so we're not hurrying it too much!
iheartthatdance: lol xiane :)
rakubuttons joined the room
xiane: I made one at forumarena.com
sarawearsskirts: i can't wait, though, it's going to be amazing
greenlupa: Really Xiane? Can we chat later?
iheartthatdance: oh I see what you mean -- yes, CSST has a Ning community.
xiane: yes! :)
JewelsofLuxury: what have you guys been using the most to communicate with your team? we have a googlegroup and a blog, but are having a hard time getting people to use them (2 months as a group so far)
jillhannah: we had someone volunteer to make our forum on invision
xiane: EGCG uses our forum
greenlupa: Xiane - the EAST forum I'm on?
rakubuttons left the room
montezumamudd: We use the Etsy forum
xiane: yep!
lookability: We have a yahoo group it's not extremely active
JetTeam: We have a google group, but there is also yahoo & several others. We also have a private off site chat room.
Middleburg joined the room
xiane: I set that up, green
mainemade: Totally understandable. We just have so many new members that are jazzed to see frequently updated events and member names.
rikrak: for canada we use the flickr threads in our group - for trashion - once in a while emails.
greenlupa: You are amazing!!!
sarawearsskirts: unfortunately for the time being, i think a google group or flickr group is best
xiane: it was super easy ;)
iheartthatdance: I think it's hard to get people to go to too many places -- like one plus Etsy is usually more than enough.
lookability: & a blog
jillhannah: but since only 18 of our 50+ members are on it so far, I'm still sending out mass emails for announcements and such
rikrak: true, i heart!
xiane: we tried a yahoo group, but a lot of people weren't using it.
sacredoak: well guys i must dash my sons physical therapist and spech therapist will be here soon
sarawearsskirts: some teams basically do all their membership through their groups
xiane: sacred, good to see you!
greenlupa: By Sacredoak!
mainemade: We just started a flickr and are working on a google blogspot. By the way, google blogspot has a bizillion cool features .
lookability: I don't understand how to use team coversations... is that just for the leader?
sarawearsskirts: so everyone is in the loop, so to speak
iheartthatdance: I like having a blog to publicize to OOE (out of Etsy LOL) folks
ElysianFields: we use a Yahoo group and it's extremely busy
rikrak: by sacred
xiane: blogs are great
sacredoak: if yall need help in paperork or whatever just convo me
sarawearsskirts: team conversations aren't fucntioning right now
sacredoak: bye guys :D
lookability: well that explains it :)
sarawearsskirts: bye!
iheartthatdance: but keep team announcements kind of condensed in one place
jillhannah: thanks sacred!
sarawearsskirts: so, more questions? the queue is empty
iheartthatdance: bye sacred!

sarawearsskirts: on how to use the labs
jillhannah: I'm all for them doing the whole press kit thing, but I didn't want to unleash them upon the team if it was entirely nuts
sarawearsskirts: ha.
sarawearsskirts: well, ask them to do something basic and see how it goes, perhaps?
mainemade: ask: wow this chat moves quick. Where can we find a transcript once it's complete?
xiane: You can always use the questions to your team as blog posts, too
