sarawearsskirts: okay, let's begin
JDStar: I'll copy off of you
sarawearsskirts: i had on my clipboard that i'd like to talk about collaborations in general today
sarawearsskirts: (you guys are funny)
orioneclipsed: we try (-:
sarawearsskirts: but, as usual, i'm always open for answering any teams-related questions you might have
sarawearsskirts: general discussion of ideas, etc for teams is great!
FishOnTheWall joined the room
GemsByEm joined the room
JDStar: Collaborations like 2 shops workingon one item, 2 shops promoting each other?
sarawearsskirts: hello, fishonthewall and gemsbyem!
GemsByEm: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: either one, really, jdstar
FishOnTheWall: Hello! sorry I'm late!
sarawearsskirts: just teams working together on any project, reallky
sarawearsskirts: that's okay! we've just begun!
kimmchi: teh newnew is trying to work on a collaboration with the CA team, but it's hard to decide on an actual activity....
sarawearsskirts: we're discussing collaborations generally today
sarawearsskirts: ahh, i see, kimm
kimmchi: either a joint sale, or maybe actually cross featuring members might be more personable
montezumamudd: The Mud Team is currently working on two upcoming collaborative events; one with LEST and one with ECGC - fun stuff!
sarawearsskirts: we can brainstorm that today, i fyou'd like
sarawearsskirts: excellent!
sarawearsskirts: care to elaborate at all, montezumamudd?
kimmchi: yes totally, what sort of studd is mud doing?
sarawearsskirts: maybe it will spark ideas for other teams?
FishOnTheWall: We came up with our idea & then presented it to the other teams...
montezumamudd: The LEST and EMT event is a jewelry competition for Mother's Day.
sarawearsskirts: fishonthewall, you're with the JET Team, right?
FishOnTheWall: Yes- Sorry I forgot to log in/out
sarawearsskirts: oh, that's okay
montezumamudd: The ECGC and EMT event is a soap and soap dish competition in late May.
sarawearsskirts: wonderful!
sarawearsskirts: kimmchi, have there been ideas floating around between your teams for possible collaborations?
sarawearsskirts: what kinds of things have you all discussed so far?
montezumamudd: We also work with LEST promoting glass and ceramic treasuries.
sarawearsskirts: LEST is a really enthusiastic new team, it's great!
kimmchi: Yes we thought about volunteers from each team doing blog feature s on the other artists - to get to know each other better and help promote that way
are you on more than one team?
kimmchi: I loke th idea of a contest
JDStar: Only active in one though
sarawearsskirts: that sounds like a great start, kimm
3 yay, sarawearsskirts: kimmchi, be careful with contests... here's an article on that...
sarawearsskirts: http://www.etsy.com/storque/section/etsyNews/article/promoting-your-etsy-shop-contest-alternatives/1223/
RoseThistleArtworks joined the room
kimmchi: yes, i know heh heh heh, we've never done that sort of thing, we stick to straight reviews and wouldlove to get out of our comfort zone
virtuallori joined the room
sarawearsskirts: there are legal considerations involved in contests...
kimmchi: Maybe joing treasuries?
sarawearsskirts: treasuries would be good
kimmchi: sorry, i am having spelling issues
claudiasburningink joined the room
MostlyMagnets joined the room
sarawearsskirts: what about pairing up members to work on joint projects, like the co-production contest etsy held a few months ago?
kimmchi: I only like that idea becaus eit might promote more participation
kimmchi: from team members
claudiasburningink: Hi everyone!
MostlyMagnets: Hi there!
sarawearsskirts: or does anyone remember pal-chemy?
Born2BeeWild: How did I just put a heart on the admin?
kimmchi: oooh, I like that - people that do similar items or artist collaborations - cool
sarawearsskirts: awww
kimmchi: u luv her
JetTeam joined the room
JDStar: Hey Claudia
sarawearsskirts: yep - or a supply person could mail random supplies and then they document the results and split the sale?
sarawearsskirts: (or sell in a team shop)
claudiasburningink: JD since I'm at work, can you take notes for me?
sarawearsskirts: that would make for interesting posts on some blogs
littlepurls joined the room
misscourageous joined the room
littlepurls: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: (sorry, all, i know i've been lax about posting transcripts, i'll try to catch that page up today)
sarawearsskirts: hello, everyone!
JDStar: minutes are being taken Claudia.
kimmchi: sara, those are all fantastic ideas thank you, i will share them with the temas
misscourageous: Hello!
has your team considered collaborating with another team?
Jewelry24Seven joined the room
9 yay, 4 nay, 3 abstain
sarawearsskirts: great! very good
littlepurls: there was talk a while ago with a new jersey s.t. to compete against the cccoe
littlepurls: but nothing ever came of it
sarawearsskirts: ahh, that's what the nyc team is talking about now
daniellexo left the room
sarawearsskirts: i'd love to see philly and nj pair up, too
littlepurls: oh cool
claudiasburningink: OK sorry team I have to get back to work. Lots of love, GO Disciples of Etsy
claudiasburningink left the room
sarawearsskirts: philly and the south central pa team are working on putting on a show right now
RoseThistleArtworks: "competing with" how is that done?
sarawearsskirts: oh, like a craft-off?
littlepurls: yeah kinda
sarawearsskirts: that sounds fun!
littlepurls: we were brainstorming
sarawearsskirts: great! that's what we're doing here today - brainstorming ways teams can collaborate on projects
Born2BeeWild: gotta go back to work, I can't seem to keep up here. BYE
sarawearsskirts: oh, thanks for coming in!
Born2BeeWild left the room
JDStar left the room
littlepurls: but kinda like a craft off, like the nyc team would make 'california themed items' and the california team would would make nyc themed items
MostlyMagnets left the room
sarawearsskirts: oh, i like that idea (kimmchi, are you still here?)
RoseThistleArtworks: Oh! THAT sounds coooool!
orioneclipsed: that sounds kinda cool
sarawearsskirts: very cool
kimmchi: oh, i like that too little purls
littlepurls: then the opposite team would vote
virtuallori: Sorry -- conference call coming through. Gotta run.
virtuallori left the room
littlepurls: like, nawww you got california all wrong!
RoseThistleArtworks: we're a busy bunch
misscourageous: my team is still relatively new, just since january, not sure if we're ready to collaborate
sarawearsskirts: that's okay, misscourageous. it's up to the team how much they want to take on
littlepurls: i wish there was a place on etsy for the teams to meet up besides the forums
kimmchi: sorry guys, craftzine.com just ran a t=utorial I did on paper making and I can't stop staring at my name on their page!
sarawearsskirts: it's okay if teams want to work on things within themselves
RoseThistleArtworks: our needle felt team is in "talks" with etsyFAST but since we are basically a subset of FAST it's hard to come up with anything. :(
littlepurls: i positively hate yahoo groups
sarawearsskirts: awww, kimmchi, that's great!
sarawearsskirts: (link?)
sarawearsskirts: i like google groups over yahoo groups, personally
littlepurls: i've never tried google groups
kimmchi: I think we are gonna try and do a bi-coastal chat or a virtual labs meetingto hash this out between the two teams
claudiasburningink joined the room
misscourageous: we have our first big show tonite, articles in all the papers!
sarawearsskirts: that sounds great
kimmchi: http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2008/04/how_to_make_paper_from_junk_ma.html
RoseThistleArtworks: Our group isn't happy with google. We haven't found a way to meaningfully ORGANIZE all the info
sarawearsskirts: oh wow, congratulations, misscouragous
littlepurls: how hard is it to form your own group?
FishOnTheWall: one of my teams is thinking of a message board to replace the google group.
misscourageous: thanks, I'll post some pics in the flickr group tomorrow
kimmchi: we are getting into usiing the page sfeature in teh googl egroup and constantly linking to those and updating
pacobox joined the room
sarawearsskirts: yeah, using the pages tool is something philly's just starting to do, it's nice
RoseThistleArtworks: way to go kimmchi! yes the pages have been the best and most useful but yahoo has all those folders, too
sarawearsskirts: littlepurls, forming your own group on google?
claudiasburningink: I co-host my group with JDStar
littlepurls: no for etsy
lilbrigid joined the room
sarawearsskirts: oh, here are the instructions - http://team.etsy.com/join.html
littlepurls: cool thanks
sarawearsskirts: kimmchi, that tutorial is great press for the new new!
sarawearsskirts: nice work!
claudiasburningink: Sara, so what exactly are we talking about with hooking up with other groups?
RoseThistleArtworks: littlepurls, I just started chatting with other needle felters on the forums, built up a small group that way
sarawearsskirts: you should send the link to adam at pressclub@etsy.com
kimmchi: yes, I hope so!! we are posting every day this month with tutorial and features for earth day :)
kimmchi: will do
sarawearsskirts: claudiasburningink, we're brainstorming ways that different teams can work together on various projects
lilbrigid left the room
sarawearsskirts: it's up to the individual teams, but we're generating broad ideas today
sarawearsskirts: to spark more ideas for teams
littlepurls: yeah, i want to start a subset of the california street team, the nor cal street team. cause it seems like everyone in the cccoe is from LA
sarawearsskirts: good idea, littlepurls
claudiasburningink: great, well my suggestion would be co host shows or craft nights
sarawearsskirts: SFEtsy is a great team, too
sarawearsskirts: great!
littlepurls: is that for san francisco?
sarawearsskirts: yep, san francisco
RoseThistleArtworks: does anyone have any ideas on how needle felt and fiber arts could team up? It seems so natural, but we can't seem to find a way to maintain our individual identities yet share a venture.
claudiasburningink: Currently our state has just the one team.
sarawearsskirts: is there any way for the fiber arts people to send handmade supplies or something to needlefelters to make things out of?
claudiasburningink: What about web broadcast, I'd suggest on weekends for those of us that work M-F
RoseThistleArtworks: yes, that was a good idea, but that leaves out all the other fiber artists
sarawearsskirts: claudiasburningink, you can hook up with a virtual team, as well - maybe cross promote with a team based on craft
sarawearsskirts: hmmm
sarawearsskirts: i'm going to think about this more, rosethistle
RoseThistleArtworks: thx
FishOnTheWall: Maybe they could do a design challenge= set the colors/theme and see what everyone comes up with?
misscourageous: we're starting to plan our next event, a silent auction for charity, maybe another team wants to challenge us for raising $$$?
sarawearsskirts: i have to admit i don't know a whole lot about fiber arts
RoseThistleArtworks: AHA!
claudiasburningink left the room
sarawearsskirts: ooooh misscourageous, that's an idea!
sarawearsskirts: i like that it would go to a good cause!
RoseThistleArtworks: fishonthewall! good idea . . . GREAT idea so simple, yet GENIUS
misscourageous: who's up for the challlenge? we haven't picked a charity yet...
sarawearsskirts: fishtonthewall, that is a great idea!
sarawearsskirts: the beadweavers have been doing monthly challenges very successfully for a while now - they're blog is great
littlepurls: you should look for a craft based charity
RoseThistleArtworks: Needlefelt takes so looooong it's hard to do too many charity events
FishOnTheWall: That is what we are doing with our wedding challenge. We the Jewelry on Etsy Team (JET) etsy FAST & Etsy Greetings are all working from the same guidelines.
sarawearsskirts: or even donorschoose.org -
misscourageous: craft based? ie:?
littlepurls: or non profit
sarawearsskirts: you could maybe send money for crafting supplies for school?s?
kimmchi: gotta go---sorry
kimmchi left the room
sarawearsskirts: http://www.donorschoose.org/homepage/main.html
misscourageous: I'm getting suggestions from the team then they'll vote on it
littlepurls: theres got to be some kind of non profit out there that works to teach people in need crafts and such
sarawearsskirts: excellent - yeah, it should be a team decision for sure
neawear joined the room
RoseThistleArtworks: I think fiber arts would be great for blind people to experience art
misscourageous: I'm marking that site
sarawearsskirts: http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/search.html?zone=0&sourceid=hp&keywords=crafts&x=0&y=0
RoseThistleArtworks: since its so tactile
sarawearsskirts: oh, rosethistleartowrks, i like that thinking
misscourageous: can I ask a non-related question?
sarawearsskirts: oh sure
aplanetnamedjanet joined the room
sarawearsskirts: hello, a planetnamedjanet!
aplanetnamedjanet: Hello!
misscourageous: since our press I've had people coming out of the woodwork, not on etsy, joining etsy just to "take part in our shows"
misscourageous: any tips on this?
sarawearsskirts: hmmm
misscourageous: they don't even know what they're trying to sign up for
neawear left the room
sarawearsskirts: maybe your team could have a skill share, like tips on how to list on etsy?
sarawearsskirts: or have a requirement for participating in shows that all sellers have to have at least X number of items listed in a shop?
misscourageous: I thought maybe in the future new members would have to be on etsy for a minimum time before joining
sarawearsskirts: yep
RoseThistleArtworks: what show did your group do misscourageous?
misscourageous: it's tonight
misscourageous: lots of press lately
sarawearsskirts: and offering to sort of mentor them in setting up shop might be a good way to make it seem less intimidating or less like hard work?
RoseThistleArtworks: what is it? I'm under a rock
misscourageous: you're not under a rock. it's in idaho, for first thursday art walk
fairytalefibers joined the room
RoseThistleArtworks: Ooooohhh. Sounds so cool. But, I see what you are saying now about people joining just to be in the show.
sarawearsskirts: first thursdays or fridays are great chances to get out in your city and promote etsy, if you're in a big enough city to have one
littlepurls: does anyone belong to a craft mafia?
sarawearsskirts: we go out in philly sometimes, and i've been to first fridays in charlottesville, va and phoenix
sarawearsskirts: it's such a great way to reach people whoh appreicate art where you live
misscourageous: Boise's pretty small actually, I think half of the etsy sellers in idaho are on the team now! LOL
orioneclipsed: tulsa has a craft mafia.. not sure about it though
sarawearsskirts: but there are browsers, right?
misscourageous: yep
sarawearsskirts: philly's craft mafia is kind of MIA
littlepurls: sacramento has a craft mafia that's pretty active
littlepurls: i think most of them sell on etsy
orioneclipsed: what do craft mafias usually do?
littlepurls: same as a team
littlepurls: get together
littlepurls: do shows
sarawearsskirts: some organize shows, promote themselves... very similar to etsy teams, really
littlepurls: promote eachother
littlepurls: yup
orioneclipsed: I see
sarawearsskirts: it's a creative way of branding your group of handmakers, really
misscourageous: this is from yesterday's news: http://www.boiseweekly.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A312524
sarawearsskirts: craft mafias are pretty awesome
vintageprints joined the room
sarawearsskirts: hello, vintageprtints!
vintageprints: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: we're brainstorming ways that etsy teams can pair up to work together on projects
vintageprints: I'm a member of the vintage street team
sarawearsskirts: does anyone have more questions for me? (the vintage team is great!)
sarawearsskirts: or more ideas to throw ou tthere for us?
RoseThistleArtworks: oh no I didn't save that donor link!
misscourageous: is there another regional team that wants to do a charity challenge against idaho?
misscourageous: http://www.donorschoose.org/homepage/main.html
sarawearsskirts: oh, here's the search for craft i posted from it: http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/search.html?page=2&zone=0&keywords=crafts&y=0&sourceid=hp&x=0
sarawearsskirts: (i'm on such a donors choose kick lately, i love that site)
sarawearsskirts: or kiva!
misscourageous: what's kiva?
montezumamudd: kiva is GREAT!
sarawearsskirts: http://www.kiva.org/
littlepurls: oh kiva was in the storque right?
sarawearsskirts: it's microloans from individuals - etsy has paired with kiva on some events, they're great
sarawearsskirts: right!
littlepurls: that was really cool
have you read the book club book by Yunus on microlending?
littlepurls: whats the book about?
sarawearsskirts: http://www.amazon.com/Banker-Poor-Micro-Lending-Against-Poverty/dp/1891620118
sarawearsskirts: is a good read - pretty quick
IndieMoon joined the room
1 yay, sarawearsskirts: it's about Muhammed Yunus and his global microlending
littlepurls: does the etsy book club ever read fiction?
sarawearsskirts: i'm the only one that read it?!?
misscourageous: who has time to read?
sarawearsskirts: :)
littlepurls: lol
sarawearsskirts: no, etsy book club is pretty much nonfiction
immortallongings joined the room
sarawearsskirts: so we can learn about ideas for etsy, etc
littlepurls: all the books are about economics
immortallongings: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: the books have all been good, nice reads, in my opinion
littlepurls: *yawn
littlepurls: well i'll look into ti
littlepurls: it
sarawearsskirts: i never had any interest in economics, but i swear they're interesting!
littlepurls: lol
littlepurls: i believe you
sarawearsskirts: i usually like architecture books full of pictures and i love most of the books we've read!
sarawearsskirts: hahah
littlepurls: lol
littlepurls: yes indeed
sarawearsskirts: the ben and jerry's book was interesting
vintageprints: I worked for a non-profit in Tucson that did the very same thing as that book
littlepurls: ooohh ben and jerry's book?
sarawearsskirts: vintageprints, that sounds great!
immortallongings left the room
sarawearsskirts: haha
IndieMoon: lol
sarawearsskirts: it's about running a responsible business
littlepurls: lol
sarawearsskirts: it was great
littlepurls: ahh
vintageprints: we would help migrant farmworkers start small businesses with micro-loans
littlepurls: i wanted ice cream
sarawearsskirts: vintageprints, that's wonderful. so you're familiar with kiva, then?
sarawearsskirts: or no>?
sarawearsskirts: alright, well... this was a great workshop!
misscourageous: gotta go get ready for tonight
vintageprints: I actually wasn't familiar with Kiva
sarawearsskirts: any more questions for me? or ideas?
