|
Minutes Started Thu Apr 10 2008 11:13:44 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)
sarawearsskirts: so, having people vote, or express their opinion on a challenge is great!
sarawearsskirts: having people comment on flickr, etc is a really good way to get people looking at what you're making
LaPellaPottery: What about prizes among us - the team iteself?
LaPellaPottery: I can't type
greenlupa: Me, either.
LaPellaPottery: We have had contests where we all make something and the winner get a donated piece of pottery
KathariyaShelton joined the room
LaPellaPottery: Come sit my me Kathaariya
sarawearsskirts: that sounds nice. i'm not sure of the legality of having a prize among your team - you'd have to look into that with a lawyer, really
KathariyaShelton: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: hi!
sarawearsskirts: we're talking about alternatives to contests for teams
LaPellaPottery: Is anyone really going to care? (not being cheeky)
LaPellaPottery: if it is between within our group?
daniellexo: (probably not)
daniellexo: i didnt say that
sarawearsskirts: lapella, we can't tell you it's okay, but you do raise a good point ;)
daniellexo: do do do do do *looks around*
sarawearsskirts: haha
greenlupa: It's been my experience in and out Etsy that there's always going to be someone down the road who will raise an issue.
daniellexo: haha
daniellexo: yes
LaPellaPottery: I guess - is this something THEMAN pursues unless there is a complaint
daniellexo: "someone"
daniellexo: ;)
sarawearsskirts: events that don't include a chance-based prize and give everyone a bit fo the incentive are your best bet
sarawearsskirts: etsy doesn't seek out contests to check if they're legal
LaPellaPottery: I'm just worried about THE MAN
LaPellaPottery: :-D
sarawearsskirts: we're just a venue, so it's up to the people holding the contest to be sure it's a-okay with the strong arm of the law
KathariyaShelton: I always wonder how people even find out about a contest.
daniellexo: we need some color in here
rosebud101 joined the room
sarawearsskirts: well, if the contest is well publicized by the team - marketed on their blogs, in the storque, the forums
sarawearsskirts: it becomes visible
sarawearsskirts: which is good for the success of an event
LaPellaPottery: We had a lot of voters when we used a contest host, but it was a PITA
sarawearsskirts: but it needs to be legal
sarawearsskirts: for those who just got here, http://www.etsy.com/storque/section/etsyNews/article/promoting-your-etsy-shop-contest-alternatives/1223/
LaPellaPottery: We do well when the whole team promotes
sarawearsskirts: great!
sarawearsskirts: how does your team promote events, lapella?
rosebud101: Hello!
sarawearsskirts: hello!
LaPellaPottery: Blogs, here on Etsy, our team site...
sarawearsskirts: (gosh, that card listing is adorable)
sarawearsskirts: great!
LaPellaPottery: We have an EMT blog ring that links about 20 of us so far
KathariyaShelton: I still cannot figure out the blog thing but I would like to..but how do you get people to your blog
sarawearsskirts: excellent! also, the teams all can link the team blogs to the blog ring, too
LaPellaPottery: I stay on the team members to add their blogs to the blog love threads
LaPellaPottery: I think it takes time. I have built up to about 150 daily readers
KathariyaShelton: wow!!
sarawearsskirts: kathariyashelton, a blog ring makes it easy for people to click through to your blog http://www.etsy.com/storque/section/howTos/article/etsy-team-tips-etsy-teams-blog-ring/1004/
sarawearsskirts: yes, it does take time
LaPellaPottery: I have no idea how it happened - I do a lot of tutorials, thogh
sarawearsskirts: and swapping links with other bloggers, etc
sarawearsskirts: oooh! tutorials are really great for getting readership! i notice that when i post them on my own personal blog
sarawearsskirts: people like to share links on how to do things.
sarawearsskirts: and it's good content
sarawearsskirts: 'good content is key to a good blog
LaPellaPottery: Not many people comment though, so without something like Google Analytics you would never know people were reading
sarawearsskirts: http://team.etsy.com/bloggingguide.html
LaPellaPottery: It's a good motivator
rosebud101: I have a question off the current topic! I can wait for an answer. Question: Are minutes of this meeting available somewhere for us to access later. Sorry I was late.
sarawearsskirts: google analytics are kind of amazing
LeighWhitaker joined the room
LeighWhitaker left the room
KathariyaShelton: I need more time in the day!!! If I keep up on the team thread and listing and laundry I wont even have enough time for clay
sarawearsskirts: yes, rosebud! they're posted here: http://team.etsy.com/workshops.html
LeighWhitaker joined the room
sarawearsskirts: you can read minutes fromall the meetings back through august
LaPellaPottery: Hi Leigh - grab a seat
sarawearsskirts: (or july?)
sarawearsskirts: hi!
LeighWhitaker: Hello!
fairytalefibers joined the room
rosebud101: Thank you!
sarawearsskirts: my pleasure!
LaPellaPottery: Being part of a team has been great for us, both sales wise and as artists
sarawearsskirts: excellent!
sarawearsskirts: (which team are you on, lapella?)
LaPellaPottery: Etsy Mud Team
LaPellaPottery: Whoot!
rosebud101: Our team is brand new to etsy. We are lest.
sarawearsskirts: that's what i thought - what a great team!
sarawearsskirts: oh, the lampwork team is so active, i love it!
rosebud101: Thank you! We are trying!
LaPellaPottery: We've teamed up with LEST for the next month or two to help promote
KathariyaShelton: I love being on a team because I learn so much from everyone else.
rosebud101: Yes!
do you find your etsy team to be awesome?
LaPellaPottery: It has been fun and a great way to see their work
LeighWhitaker: teaming up w/LEST has been great
7 yay, 0 nay, 4 abstain
sarawearsskirts: yes! i love when teams work together
sarawearsskirts: different mediums are fun to pair up!
rosebud101: It's also been such an etsy learning experience! I love it!
sarawearsskirts: excellent!
rosebud101: Yes, we are anxious to work with the mud team!
LaPellaPottery: We are teamed up with Etsy Green and Clean the next month
sarawearsskirts: i heard about that pairing - so fun
are you on a local team?
5 yay, 3 nay, 3 abstain
LaPellaPottery: I have been on the Tennessee team for a while - is there a way to make local teams more effective?
sarawearsskirts: local teams are funny
LaPellaPottery: They seems so varied - eventually they peter out
sarawearsskirts: because each is so different, depending on who is on the team and where the team is
KathariyaShelton: I have to run.. clay to play in .. have a great day all!!
sarawearsskirts: thanks!
LaPellaPottery: I know the UK Team is amazing
KathariyaShelton left the room
LaPellaPottery: Don't know how they manage
sarawearsskirts: but i think if the team can set certain goals - like helping each other with shop photos, or attending a certain number of shows a year..
sarawearsskirts: they can be really successful
rosebud101: I have to go and check my kiln. Thank you for this. I'll post some of the information on the lest website! Thank you!
rosebud101 left the room
sarawearsskirts: some local teams operate almost like global teams, since they cover such a large area
sarawearsskirts: like texas or australia or the uk
sarawearsskirts: which is great!
LaPellaPottery: We have members in UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, and the US
sarawearsskirts: wow!
LaPellaPottery: http://etsymudteam.craft-sense.com/index.asp
LaPellaPottery: We have a team web site and our web master - khphillips - has offered to host other teams' sites
sarawearsskirts: oh,i hadn't seen the mud team's cards! they look great!
JNpottery joined the room
LaPellaPottery: If teams need a home...
sarawearsskirts: excellent!
LeighWhitaker: LPP- since I'm still fairly new to the mud team, do you know how many hits the web site gets?
sarawearsskirts: jnpottery, i was just looking at your work on the mud team site!
LaPellaPottery: I'm not sure - it is fairly new
daniellexo: clay critter challenge
daniellexo: how cute!
LaPellaPottery: We ditched our old site only a month ago
JNpottery: Hello! Wow,,,and?
sarawearsskirts: does the site have a link to a search for the team tag anywhere on it?
LaPellaPottery: JN - come sit!
LeighWhitaker: did it get much traffic? I'm just wondering if customers are aware of it, and follow the contests and such
LaPellaPottery: I don't know sara - how would we do that?
JNpottery: Not sure how to get my avatar to move....
LaPellaPottery: Do a team search and then link the URL
LeighWhitaker: click on a seat
LaPellaPottery: that was a question
sarawearsskirts: you could link to http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title&search_query=emt
LaPellaPottery: :-)
daniellexo: jnpottery just click an empty square
sarawearsskirts: (well, the team tag should include "team", but for now i searched "emt")
LaPellaPottery: Hey! there we are!
JNpottery: Ok, that worked. Is there no audio?
sarawearsskirts: nope
sarawearsskirts: no audio
sarawearsskirts: :)
LaPellaPottery: we are now using emt etsymudteam
sarawearsskirts: all old school typing
sarawearsskirts: great!
sarawearsskirts: i also really like the mudteam's flickr pool. flickr is such a great way to lure people in to look at your work - with good photos
JNpottery: Guess I'll haved to get my eyes to focus then.
sarawearsskirts: (sorry!)
CraftyCaper joined the room
LaPellaPottery: We have been a very fortunate team - many people work hard - not just one poor soul
sarawearsskirts: teams are most successful when there's a core of people sharing the work for sure
LaPellaPottery: We also work as a team to grab treasuries - it gets a lot of traffic to our shops
JNpottery: It's a fantastic group...so friendly and helpful.
CraftyCaper left the room
sarawearsskirts: treasuries are great (and team tags make it really easy for people to make team treasuries)
CraftyCaper joined the room
CraftyCaper left the room
CraftyCaper joined the room
sarawearsskirts: can i answer more questions for you all this afternoon?
LaPellaPottery: We;ve foudn that mixed treasuries draw in more people than just our team
CraftyCaper left the room
sarawearsskirts: oh, good point!
LaPellaPottery: So - instead of contests? Sales? polls? What else?
LaPellaPottery: Challenges without prizes?
sarawearsskirts: yes! collaborations between groups, sales, incentives to the masses (not just winners)
daniellexo: alright !
JNpottery: Are there ways to get the rest of Etsy to know about team events, other than just forum posts?
sarawearsskirts: things that are pressworthy (charity, etc)
daniellexo: sara and i have a meeting
LaPellaPottery: Oh! I like collaborations
LeighWhitaker: oo- charity
daniellexo: don't forget sara
LeighWhitaker: that's a good idea
daniellexo: matt is waiiittting
sarawearsskirts: submitting information to the storque (team leaders do that, i thnk phyllis has submitted info)
daniellexo: :)
LeighWhitaker: i wonder if emt could do an empty bowls event?
LaPellaPottery: What about articles not related to just teams?
sarawearsskirts: nice!
sarawearsskirts: perhaps teaching a demonstration in the virtual labs and publicizing that?
sarawearsskirts: (going on the thought that people like tutorials)
sarawearsskirts: well, this was great everyone!
LaPellaPottery: Sure... fly me to NY? ;-)
greenlupa: I've got to get back to work, thanks for all the great ideas!
greenlupa left the room
sarawearsskirts: you just need on emember with a webcam!
IndieMoon: love demos & tutes
JNpottery: Ok, want to explain "empty bowls"?
sarawearsskirts: okay, i also have to run to a meeting
LaPellaPottery: Oooh - I've got that
daniellexo: you can do the v.l. from anywhere!
