Micaela Aldana Salatino was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1978. The artist and self-proclaimed “crafty vegan” attributes her love for art and fashion to her family’s creative roots. Inspired by her grandmother, a seamstress and knitter, and taught to crochet by her mother, Micaela began crafting outfits for her dolls at 5 years old. A nurturing household and hours of after-school art classes cultivated her passion throughout her childhood. After relocating to the U.S. at age10, Micaela further explored art, taking classes such as loom weaving and oil painting throughout her teens. Inspired and driven, she returned to Argentina after high school to study fashion design and affirm her craft. Once, during a creative design art class, Micaela found herself equipped with yarn but without needles. It was at this defining moment that she taught herself how to crochet using just her fingers. Her innovative finger-crochet style was born and she began selling designs in Argentina while earning a degree in Fashion Design. Once back in the U.S., Micaela explored the business side of fashion. She worked for a clothing manufacturer, an L.A. Fashion District showroom, and interned with Hugo Boss. After years of study and various enterprising shifts, Micaela embarked on an entrepreneurial journey of art and self-taught finger-crochet. Stylish and distinctive finger-crochet would later become her leading trade; and Aldana Mica, her prized endeavor.

Helping give rise to the term “upcycled”, Micaela has presented upcycled eco art classes in Long Beach, CA since 2010. Supporting the process of creating valuable products from waste materials, Micaela teaches kids, teens and adults how to create green works of art from left-over scraps of fabric, yarn and environment-friendly supplies. Micaela inspires all to take care of Mother Nature and tread lighter on the earth.

Aldana Mica is a growing leader who plants seeds of change in uplifting communities, and inspires others to reuse what is generally wasted to save the planet.
