We are your source for eco friendly - up cycled flowers and your Canadian source for fantastic natural wedding flowers - including cotton bouquets, twig crowns and pine cone hair decor which can not be shipped from USA vendors into Canada. (natural botanical elements can not be shipped cross border but most all our items can be designed to accommodate shipping challenges)
Alternative Blooms is comprised of 2 hard workin twin sisters who come from a family with 2 hard workin twin brothers (that's right my Mom had 4 kids under the age of 2 years old) a hard workin Mom and a hard working DAD (who now suffers from early onset Alzheimer's :(
In the beginning ...
It all started when we were wee little bird's ; those daisy chains and wild flower bouquets we made for my mom and dad. Mel and I (Aim) would sit for hours in the warm sunshine and cool breeze on the back hill, scourging for wild daises, butter cups, snapdragons and dandies. We love flowers, we love their complexity, delicacy, fragrance and mystery. Flowers convey emotions and personality through colour, texture and arrangement.
Flowers can tell a visual story about you, your passions, your reflections, your sensuality.

Flowers have been Mel's life as a professional designer schooled in arts and design and Floral design from Canada to the Netherlands and back again. Together we would love to help you express yourself for your special occasion by creating something just for you.

Mel has been professionally designing since she was in high school! SHE IS OLD !! LOL that is a joke.. we are twins and were not old :)
Mel started in local floral shop for a co-operative program.. the first of it's kind in our little town. Flowers and Mel, they loved each other from the beginning. From age 16 until now at age 36 Mel has worked with fresh flowers. Schooling in Art's and Design at Sheridan College Oakville, Professional floral design program from Humber College in Toronto Ontario AND within a week of finishing her year long study in Toronto she shipped off to Gouda, Netherlands for a year to study under a well respected Master Florist. In Holland she journeyed through the Dutch Master Floral program with her girlfriend and Master Florist Hanny. LET'S JUST SAY THE GIRL CAN DESIGN!
Recently Mel stepped away from the fresh flower industry and now WE have the pleasure to be apart of our most favorite vintage floral movement.
We simply adore creating wedding bouquets and decor from vintage fabrics, brooches and paper flowers. It is truly something special when we can shape the flowers by hand and style them into a bouquet that we have envisioned with our clients.
Each piece of fabric, paper or jewellery is specifically chosen for colour, texture, shimmer or movement, each an integral piece of the wedding story.
