I came up with the idea of Apple & Ivy after a party in June of 2008. I wanted my son to be dressed up for the occasion, tie and all. I sought after a tie that looked like an adult tie design, but came up short. I figured I could find a tie that was made out of silk, but again I was at a loss. Lastly I really wanted my son’s and husband's tie to match, but I quickly came to realize there was no such thing as a Father and son tie set.

I decided to take matters into my own hands. After dozens of prototypes, countless revisions and bits of fabric strewn from wall to wall, I finally got my new product looking just right. My matching husband and son tie set was the hit of the party. Everyone raved and asked where they could get outfits of their own. And so began Apply & Ivy…

Since I am a mother of a son, I know how hard it is to find cute and unique things...
