About

Julia Braun - Raven is the main artist behind Art Enchanted Woods.

I am full time, professional artist currently living and creating in Scotland.
I have been developing my watercolor technique since graduating with a B.A (Hons) in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art. I've always enjoyed painting with watercolors. It may be that it was the world I was introduces first. I was born to a family of artist. It started with my great grandfather, who passed his knowledge to his son and granddaughter. Even though I've never met him, his words sound in my head. Details, details, details! At first I was very rebellious and didn't like very much idea of spending an hour painting only cats ear. I wanted to be more free, free of the canon and rules. Lets be honest, I wasn't very patient.

Today when I look back at all my works I can see how with each watercolor my work started to become more and more detailed. Now I like to see all cats little hair just where they belong when before I would use only shadows here and there, stains of paint in different colors to show the general idea of the cat.
I have matured and my work has reached a new level.

Painting to me isn't only about a likeness of the object but mainly about its spirit, deeper meaning, emotions. There is just so much more to each person, animal or thing than our eye see. I like to paint with soul.

My goal as an artist is to never stop and continue develop my work. With that thought I have decided to get back to oil and develop my classical painting technique. I've studied work of Raphael, Michelangelo and as a way to learn from the best I've started working on reproduction of La Donna Velata by Raphael. This is just the beginning and I am planning to move at the later stage to Jean-Baptiste Regnault, The Three Graces.

Every now an then I will continue adding some more detailed watercolors on book pages ( only old damaged books - I am a book lover and amateur collector and it would pain me to tear a part any old book in a good state).

Commissions for Cat, Dog, Horse, Bird or any other animal are welcome. Also I am always open to new exciting ideas so if you have an inspiring idea that won't let you sleep until it is brought to life. I will be happy to help you.

In my shop you will also find work of my sister Evelyn, she likes to add some watercolors on book pages, It is her way to contribute in my Book rescue action.

Warm wishes

Julia
