Art Relief International works to transform the lives of struggling social groups in Chiang Mai, Thailand by offering them the opportunity to express themselves through an artistic lens. We serve a variety of different focus groups, including Burmese refugees, the indigenous hill-tribe groups, single mothers, and children with disabilities. We work in cooperation with several local organizations, where we conduct our art workshops every week. While some workshops are intended to be more fun and therapeutic, some are actually meant to teach skills necessary to create crafts and other saleable items. Each workshop is designed, planned, and implemented by our ARI volunteers and staff, allowing an enormous amount of creative control and autonomy.
