♥ ♥ ♥ DATING YOUR VINTAGE CLOTHING ♥ ♥ ♥

It's fun to learn to date your own vintage clothes (no, I don't mean take them out to a movie). Here are a few standard clues vintage dealers look for to determine how old something is:

• Seams........................ that are serged usually mean 1970s and later.
• Zippers.........................that are metal generally indicate 1960s and earlier.
• Labels..........................with full care instructions usually appear after late 70s.
• "Woolmark" labels.....never appear before 1964.
• Shoes...........................with width sizes (N, W, etc) usually mean pre-1970s

Dating clothes is an art and not a science. These are just some very general rules and sometimes they're broken...but they give you somewhere to start.

I got a lot of these ideas from this great little book: The Little Guide to Vintage Shopping, by Melody Fortier. I highly recommend it.

Another fantastic resource is the Vintage Fashion Guild. These wonderful peeps have a database of vintage fashion labels that you can use to help date your clothes. Here's that link (sorry, Etsy doesn't allow this to be clickable): http://bit.ly/nutLJ4
