About

I have been carving/sculpting with wood for over 20 years. I love working with wood as I feel the natural beauty of the wood adds to whatever I can do with it. Most of my pieces are finished with a clear coat so that the beauty of the wood shows through. Some of my pieces are made of drift wood or found wood where the natural shape sometimes shows the way to go. Some pieces are made of salvaged wood which can come from anything from old fence posts, buildings, or wherever I find the wood. The drift wood and salvaged wood can sometimes take a lot of work to get to the finshed piece but I feel the beauty that can be found in this old wood is well worth the effort. Sometimes this wood is in my shop for years before I see what is there. Then it is up to me to bring out what I see, so that you can see. I love finding what is hiding inside the wood. Canes and walking sticks were added when my father needed a cane but was too proud to carry…

Canes and walking sticks were added when my father needed a cane but was too proud to carry one of those run of the mill, old person, pharmacy canes. Dad's cane had an eagle carved into the handle, then Mom wanted a cane with roses carved into it. Over the years I have made a lot of canes, some all wood and some with other materials such as antler incorporated into them. A cane doesn't have to be just something that you need; it can also be a statement, and a style. The staff on each cane or walking stick is shaped by hand on an old fashioned shaving horse that is older than I am. I shape them by hand because I enjoy the feel of shaping the wood, and because then I can shape it in a way that fits the shape and style of the handle of each individual cane or walking stick. If you have an idea for a design but can't find one, send me an e-mail and maybe we can figure something out to suit your desires and needs. All pieces are signed and dated. I hope that you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making these things.
