I am an artist and an animal lover living and working as an illustrator / textile designer in New York for over 20 years. Originally from Philadelphia I now share my home in Manhattan’s West Village with my dog Bingo who is a constant source of inspiration.
I began painting portraits of dogs and cats after I adopted my first dog Toby. He became the subject of many Christmas cards over the years which eventually led to having 2 books of my animal portraits published by Stewart, Tabori and Chang in 2001: The Well Bred Dog and The Well Bred Cat.
About 5 years ago I borrowed a very old sock monkey from a dear friend to use as a model for a textile design I was working on. I just loved his optomistic expression and the way his head flopped to one side so I decided to do a formal oil portrait of him. I was so happy with...
