I'm Allison, the creator of Epically Epic Soap. I'm from Chicago and recently moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to give life in the mountains a try.

A glamorous day in the soap-making life ~
My days have changed a lot since my son was born last year. I work in my studio during his nap times and sometimes he's content to sit and listen to music while he watches me work, then we go out for our daily post office adventure. Luckily he is a good sport about it, and a total sweetheart, so I can keep going with my soap-making dream.

How I got started~
In the summer of 2008, I was taking a break from painting and decided to take a chance on a new venture. I started with a few ideas for artistic soaps, which were the Neapolitan soap, Mint Chip Ice Cream soap, Mrs. Zebra, and Midnight soap. After a lot of practice, mistakes, and frustration I was finally happy with the results. I became completely obsessed and worked on new soap ideas and techniques day and night. I remember riding my bike all around the city in the summer heat looking for the right essential oils, molds, and supplies.

Over the past years my shop has branched out into lotions, lip balms, perfumes, and body scrubs. I feel so lucky every day to being doing what I love!

ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS:

ARGAN OIL~ The Argan tree grows solely in the southwestern part of Morocco. The oil is obtained from the nut which looks like a cross between a walnut and an almond. It's a labor-intensive process performed only by native women. Argan oil is commonly called "liquid gold" in Europe.

CANDELILLA WAX ~ This vegan alternative to Beeswax is obtained from the coating of the wax slipper plant (Euphorhia Cerifera).

CASTOR OIL ~ Attracts and holds moisture to the skin and adds shine to lip balms.

CYCLOMETHICONE: A clear liquid silicone that makes a wonderful misty carrier for the fragrance and moisturizing oils. Cyclomethicone improves the skin absorption of oils and gives a non-greasy, silky-soft feeling on your skin and a long-lasting shine to your hair.

JOJOBA SEED OIL~ Renowned for its absorption and moisturizing abilities because its composition is very close to sebum, your skin's natural moisturizer. It absorbs the instant it touches your skin.

MACADAMIA NUT BUTTER is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the Macadamia Ternifolia tree. The natural oil is then combined with hydrogenated Macadamia seed oil to produce a butter. Macadamia Seed Butter is exceptionally emollient and absorbs easily into the skin.

MACADAMIA OIL~ An antioxidant oil that is hydrating and gentle. It is a skin lubricant and is easily absorbed by the skin, sometimes described as the "vanishing oil."

MINERAL COLORANT ~ May include mica, fd&c colors, mineral oxides, titanium dioxide.

NATURAL SWEETENER: I like to add sweetener to my lip balms and tints because it makes the flavor really pop. It's a 100% natural vegan sweetener that does not contain saccharin or aspartame.

OLIVE SQUALANE~ A precious moisturizer derived from olives that is a normal constituent of the human sebum. Dry parched skin now feels dramatically softer and more supple.

PISTACHIO BUTTER ~ I love Pistachio butter for its low comedogenicity (meaning it won’t clog pores). I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin since using this butter – no more itchy dryness at the end of the day. I call it my “miracle butter.”

SHEA BUTTER ~ Extremely moisturizing and gentle to the skin. In soaps, it gives a very luxurious feel to the finished product.

SWEET ALMOND OIL ~ An excellent emollient that soothes and softens the skin, relieves irritation, and balances the skin's moisture level.

STEARIC/Caprylic/Capric Glyceride~ A natural, Kosher, non-hydrogenated butter created from vegetable sources. Prevents crystal formation in Shea and Cocoa butters.

VITAMIN E ~ A wonderful anti-oxidant vitamin that also helps make lotions and lip balms last longer.
