My love for art started with wallpaper. I was fascinated by the effect of printed flowers on rolls of paper somehow matching up row by row, transforming a pale room into a friendly, colorful space.
It was magical to me, as I helped my uncle to wallpaper my bedroom when I was twelve years old.
I grew up in Bavaria, Germany in a small country village surrounded by green, hilly fields, forests and pebble- bottomed rivers; nature was my play ground.
After school I entered an apprenticeship for department store decoration in Munich and graduated after three years.
It was there where for the first time I heard of artists like Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.
To this day I am captivated by the paintings of the Impressionist Area. I draw a great deal of inspiration from it and constantly study the works and lives of Paul Cezanne, August Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, Edouard Manet, Paul Gauguin, Edgar Degas and others.
In their paintings I see the landscapes of Europe, the earth I come from.
Their paintings of churches and cathedrals remind me of the gothic and baroque style churches of my childhood.
I am by large a self-taught artist and I am still learning with great joy.
I started out painting in oil but switched to acrylic paint more than fifteen years ago when I was pregnant with my son. For some years I painted with my husband in an abstract/surrealistic style. Together we showed and sold collaborations in the "America House" in Munich, Germany.
Along the way I felt the need to direct my art into a more “realistic” direction. I like to paint what I imagined and see. To follow a thought and execute it with all its challanges and joys is a great source of freedom in my life. Something inside leads me to the finished painting and I feel when it is done. It gives me happiness and satisfaction.
I like to paint animals, still life, landscapes and people. Nature inspires and nourishes me and sparks my creativity.
My work is shown at local art shows and on etsy and collected in Europe and the US. Commission work is welcomed!
Resently I submitted an acrylic painting of mine (monkey face) to a local Art Musem
( www.Artel.org) as part of a project of the museum where at least two hundred painted wooden squares will make one big mosaic piece of art. All pieces of the puzzle are painted by local artists and painters. I am happy and proud to be part of this team effort to create art for our community.
