I've always been an artist wannabe. I admire those who dare to be different and use their imagination to envision and create new things for the rest of us to enjoy. I have become a self-taught artist of sorts -- maybe one step up from the artist wannabe. The most wonderful part of trying to do art is that I've begun to see things around me with a new "artist's eye", and find that I appreciate the special little things that are all around us every day....like the sparkling of sunlight on water, bright golden aspens, the intricate shapes and colors of the landscape, a bee pollinating my garden, raindrops on flowers after a summer shower, evening shadows producing special effects all of their own, the setting sun glimmering through treetops, a white heron in flight, the spectrum of colors we are able to enjoy. Beauty is everywhere. "Light" has a magic all its own!
Why FrogBlossoms? My dad loved making ceramics. He was never one to make just one of anything -- he made everything by the dozens. One of his favorites was a frog-shaped planter. The frog had raised flowers all over it that he painted in a rainbow of colors. Everyone loved those Frog Blossom planters. My dad had his very first piano lesson when he was in his twenties while serving in Germany during WWII. He loved classical music and became an excellent pianist, and after retirement from the Air Force became a piano tuner and teacher and church pianist. He was witty, smart, talented, and artistic. He was able to do anything he set his mind to -- leather tooling, carpentry, baking, quilting, crochet, cross-stitch, ceramics, music. He was a loving, generous man and I miss him. So here's to you Daddy!
