About

I am an artist and single father living on Maui with my four amazing children. I began making chopsticks, spoons and cutting boards for friends and family. The requests kept coming in, so eight years later here I am on etsy. All items are made with love and passion in my home woodshop on the north shore of Maui. I love to make things that are comfortable to use and handle, so people will enjoy using them every day.

I spend extra time sanding each piece to a satin smooth finish and use rice bran oil to finish the wood. It is a mild, odorless oil with a high heat tolerance and 100% edible!

Some woodworkers use mineral oil which is a petroleum product and although it is considered 'foodsafe', I feel no need to bring the crude into the kitchen. My hair sticks also get two coats of a proprietary beeswax/oil finish to ensure a durable, long lasting beauty.

I do use local hawaiian woods whenever possible, but focus more on sustainable and salvaged woods that are appropriate for kitchen use. All of my wood choices are closed pore such as maple, cherry, jatoba, or tight pored such as koa, walnut, and canary. All pieces are soaked in oil for a minimum of 24 hours to ensure total absorption, then hand wiped to a clean shine. Each product comes with a hang tag describing the wood species and care instructions.

If you are interested in other wood choices or custom creations just let me know- I'd be happy to discuss details with you.
