Vanessa Compton's Profile
I am drawn to the most private of human moments. Every life is so full of wondrous occurrences yet they too often are overlooked and under appreciated. My goal is to present specific moments that I see as defining the human experience. These rarely discussed moments include instances of self-reflection, sensuality, fear, solitude, and the quiet passage of time.
I am also drawn to the subconscious realm of dreams and nightmares. In showcasing these moments I hope to highlight the often hidden humor in all our lives.
Artists such as Per Fronth, Lewis Carroll, Aurel Schmidt and the collaborative ceramic works of Peter Fischli and David Weiss have also engaged these ideas. Like them, my work often contains diminutive elements so that they might draw the viewer in physically to get a more visceral look. It is meant to be tender yet still full of secrets...
