Hello, and welcome! My name is Dawn and I come from a long line of women who made everything by hand--their clothes, the blankets and rugs in their homes, the food they ate, including butter, cheese, bread...my mom milked cows, my grandmother rendered lard, my great-grandmother hand-stitched her garments during the great depression, and I studied painting and jewelry design in art school, specializing in neo-expressionism and the human form, and seriously experimenting with modern dance, world literature, and creative writing.

I am the sole creator for LaTouchables--I am LaTouchables! :-)

When I make something, I always keep myself in mind--would I wear it? Would I love it?...

Would I love it? My aim is to make something meaningful and beautiful, however large or small, in whatever form...

The whole process of creating begins with an impression--from the weather, a moving picture, a book, a feeling, an experience. The materials--a vintage button from a flea-market in Berlin, Dutch wax cotton, the finest Italian linen, luminous glass and bone beads from Africa--each element could well stand alone. Taken together, they create an irresistible whole. These are my paints.

LaTouchables crosses genres. Welcome, and keep an eye out in the coming weeks!

Some notes on materials and my work-ethic:

*The materials I work with are mostly natural (linen, cotton, silk, wool, Mali glass beads, African bone, French horn, things out of my grandmother's trunk on her midwestern farm) and always authentic. I spend a great deal of time searching for beautiful elements and raw materials to construct my jewelry, and it's a work of passion and ultimate satisfaction. It's also a time-consuming work, and most pieces are one-of-a-kind, and with the exception of certain scarves, nothing can be replicated.

**Waxed cotton cord is just that: an extremely strong cotton cord with a poly core which has been waxed to give it particular body. With time, the wax will soften a bit. I've been wearing a waxed cotton cord necklace for over thirteen years now, and it is still in excellent condition.

***Any vintage or antique materials I might use have been meticulously cleaned or laundered.

****I source my fresh lavender from Provence, France.

Thank you!
Dawn
