Lucinda Mudge's Profile
Lucinda Mudge is a South African artist who lives and works in Keurboomstrand, near Plettenberg Bay. After completing her fine arts degree (BAFA) at the University of Cape Town in 2001, she lived and worked in England, before returning to South Africa.
Primarily working in the medium of ceramics, her work explores notions around narrative art.
Paying homage to the Staffordshire slipware potters of the 17th century, and working with reference to the decorative arts and art historical sources, her surfaces are richly textured with designs marked into the clay, which is then followed by the process of honey glazing that traditionally accompanies slip work. Her studio is filled with her sketchbooks and ceramic reference books and together these form the inspiration for her work.
