About

Madame Koiteh is a family business, led by a spiritualist and herbalist, a formulator of exquisite natural products for skin and hair, and a professional soapmaker. Our Etsy shop is managed primarily by Rose, our own dear soapmaker, and a darling sister. We are a proud member of the Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild.
We started out by specializing in Black and ethnic skincare and haircare. Our hair and skin have special needs that are usually not properly addressed by commercially available products, even those that are marketed towards us. Today, more Black women than ever are suffering from severe hair loss and scalp damage, and our natural products address those problems with a healthy solution! Check out my blog to discover my own story of hair improvement! http://www.madamekoiteh.blogspot.com

Each year, the Koiteh family donates a percentage of our net proceeds to charity. We give to organizations and charitable causes throughout Africa, the Caribbean, and the US, and select a different recipient each year. In 2011, we sponsored the Sheikh Jobe Institute in the Gambia, West Africa. For 2012, we are honored to sponsor the Sanjally Bojang Foundation, a charitable organization that operates several orphanages in the Gambia and provides care and lodging for hundreds of impoverished children. Please check our shop periodically for special bonus items offered exclusively for the charity. You can also learn more at our blog. Thank you for shopping with your heart!

A note from Rose:
I am happy to offer my services as a spiritual practitioner through crafting personalized spiritual items, such as oils, incense, powders, beads, and talismans/amulets for your specific needs. I am an initiated Priestess of Osun (Oshun/Ochun) in the Yoruba African tradition, as well as having a lifetime of experience in American and Caribbean rootwork. I offer spiritual readings as time permits, and I divine with Diloggun (shells) and Obi (cola). Just contact me with your request and I will reply, usually within 24 hours, often much sooner than that. I also offer many rare and hard to find spiritual supplies and African religious items, as well as herbs and incenses. I source most of these items directly from my friends and family in West Africa, so I can assure my customers of the absolute best quality available anywhere! If you need something for your spiritual practice or altar that you don't see in my shop, please send me a brief note. I may have it or be able to get it for you.

January 2012 update: I will be "unveiling" my new website soon with hundreds of items that I do not offer on Etsy, including many of my exclusive spiritual and magical preparations. I specialize in a very unique and powerful type of Hermetic African craft that is virtually unknown in the Western world today, and I am very excited to share that with you. Please come back soon to share the opening of my new website, there will be sales, specials, and lots of fun!

I also want to thank all of the amazing friends and customers on Etsy who have supported my family's business over the last few years. It is such a priviledge to serve you, and because of your generous feedback, kind patronage, and altogether divine goodness, I am able to help my family business and support our charities in the African Diaspora.

I am a real artisan behind the label, and I craft all of my fashion and beauty items by hand, selecting only the finest quality materials to present you with luxury and comfort. I am a joyful, caring creator of lovely things. I learned to crochet, make African style soap, bead, and sew when I was a small child and have been working with herbs and oils and other natural ingredients since that time as well. My family tradition includes many generations of spiritualists and natural healers, and we are proud to continue to offer our services to the world today. I hope you enjoy our products.

You can see my jewelry, vintage finds, and handcrafted fashion at my other Etsy shop www.scarfandskirt.etsy.com. (Please note, I will be closing this shop soon, and my designs will be available in this Etsy shop -madamekoiteh- as well as my new website :)
