My name is Anna-Marie, but my friends call me Minkie or Minx. I taught myself to sew in college, and I have been sporadically sewing and designing for the past eight years. I started Minxshop in January of 2010. The goal of my designs is to create clothes that are interesting and unique, but also comfortable and wearable on a day to day basis. I think we all need something that is easy to put on with a pair of jeans and boots, and not look like we just crawled out of a dumpster. But on the other hand, most of my pieces can easily be dressed up with heels, amazing tights, and weird mismatched blazers and cardigans.
My design aesthetic is fluid and constantly changing. I find inspiration daily in amazing vintage pieces, nature, and by my constant forays into the world of fashion. It might be said that I spend a bit too much time reading various fashion blogs. I am addicted. I'm drawn to the eclectic and unexpected, and really enjoy combining vintage pieces with modern clean lines and mixing in something distressed, sexy, or utterly wild.
I work in tandem with my mom who helps me with making accessories, shipping, packaging, and general organizing. She lives in Pittsburgh, and is going to school full time for occupational therapy. She keeps my generally sane and down to earth, and is the only reason that my shop has a filing cabinet. I've also been getting help with some of the production work from my friend Tanya. She is a stay at home mom, who is honestly a better seamstress than I am, and much better cook to boot. I have so much to learn from them!
All of my clothes are created in small runs. I buy about 10 to 50 yards of fabric, and once it’s gone, you won’t see anything quite like it again. I keep my designs eco-friendly by saving my scraps to later be used as hang tags and trim on future designs. Everything you buy from me is well made, and built to last for a long time.
