Janie Neilson's Profile

About

I’m Janie Neilson the Everything here at Septagram. I design and make all of the jewellery, and imagine and paint the artwork.

I started making jewellery as a hobby. This began a while ago so the details have become sketchy as to when I started. I just know I fell in love with being able to create my own jewellery. I love picking out beads and gemstones that I know I can put together to make something with purpose and beauty. I’ve found my attention centering on glass beads, seed beads, as well as gemstones. These are the main materials that I still use in the majority of products. It`s likely you`ll notice this while searching my shop. I have been doing this for years and I`ve taken classes, learned from YouTube tutorials, and spent hours of trial and error perfecting my jewellery making. I put out the best of my work so people purchasing it shouldn`t worry it will be well made…

My painting is another hobby that I can`t exactly pinpoint starting. My parents have kept finger paintings that indicate that it started fairly young. I`ve been honing my craft pretty much since then. Right now I mostly use water colours and acrylics in my paintings, I often mix the two as well. My subjects tend to be cheery things. I prefer to have positive things surrounding me. I`d never put up a picture of something that would depress me or bring me down and I don`t tend to paint them either. So expect a lot of cupcakes, bunnies, and rainbows. I think this makes my paintings great for kids but I have no problem with an adult enjoying them as well.

The name Septagram is actually another name for a Heptagram (Elfin Star, Fairy Star). It’s a seven pointed star that like a normal star can be drawn without ever having to take your pen off the page. It’s a beautiful symbol that I find elegant and magical. It’s also underused. I want my work to mirror those thoughts. My work is something I want to be considered majestic and different from the rest of the products that are out there.
