It was a warm summer day at my aunt’s vacation home in a place called Michiana. My aunt gathered her daughter, Alice and me together, gave us some yarn and a hook, and taught us how to crochet. I was 11 years old then. I don’t imagine Aunt Anne realized the legacy she gave me that day. I’m 67 now, and the stitches I learned when I made the lacy collar are still part of everything I make (except I traded in the slip knot for a magic adjustable ring). Thank you, Aunt Anne!
