About

As a child I was blessed with four grandparents and a great-grandmother whose generosity surrounded us with antiques of all kinds. Anything old was a treasure to me, and as early as 4 or 5 years of age I was a picker and collector.

About

As a child I was blessed with four grandparents and a great-grandmother whose generosity surrounded us with antiques of all kinds. Anything old was a treasure to me, and as early as 4 or 5 years of age I was a picker and collector.

Sometimes it was Nana June's discarded powder compacts or perfume bottles, or antique toys from Aunt Nanny's Victorian attic.

One time I salvaged an enormous, truly beautiful silk lampshade replete with six-inch swishy fringe. I had plucked it from a neighbor's trash can on the way home from kindergarten, plonked it on my head, and followed my feet 1/4 mile home. My mother and grandmother were hysterical as that walking lampshade sashayed up the long driveway with only my white sneakers showing!

I still find my treasures here, there, and everywhere -- such fun! My grandchildren say I have "an eye" and I suppose I do. Their grandfather says we have "no room!" and I suppose that's true too...

I love the idea that my treasures will be repurposed, loved, and appreciated again in the very best home of all: yours!
