About

My name is Jessica, and I am a self-taught creature creator who loves fairy tales, mythology, nature, and the moon. Plushroom Soup is the result of combining my sewing skills with much daydreaming and a little wine.

I made my first plushie in 2006. I was on the hunt for a cute plush alpaca to represent my dream of becoming a fiber farmer. I couldn't find anything that I liked, so I decided to make it myself!

It wasn't long before I began straying from familiar creatures to explore the mythology, fantasy, and folklore tales I have always loved.

I like to twist these tales and thoughts and infuse them with pop culture references and my own strange sense of humor. I like things that are just a little off-kilter. I also like challenging traditional notions like plush needs to be cute, or that plush is only for children. When looking at my creatures, I want people to maybe think twice about these ingrained notions. Embrace the quirky. We're all a little bit odd, and that's okay.

Each item in the shop is truly unique. I don't buy materials in bulk, and each plushie is sewn by me using patterns of my own design. I hope you like what you see and will visit often!

You may know me also know me as one of the creators behind the craft duo Crabtree Studio. Amy and I decided, mutually and amicably, to split into separate businesses in fall 2009. She's focusing on her children right now, but you can always check www.crabtreestudio.com for updates!

Also, before I started my own business, I was a buyer on Etsy under the username Pucky with a 100% positive rating.
