About

What is wind? It is a force. A driving force which acts upon us all. Anything left unsheltered is affected. Nothing escapes it. From a sweet breeze to a fierce gale, the wind is all around us. Wind is powerful. Wind is enduring.

This is how I feel about photography. For me, the urge to take pictures is a driving force in my life. I can no more escape the wind than I can the need to capture my surroundings. I cannot give up my addiction to taking pictures any more than I can make the wind not blow. Such is the unstoppable nature of the prairie winds, and my own unquenchable desire to photograph the landscape that I know and love.

I've always been drawn more to the stereotypical elements of the prairie-scape, and the small details therein that the casual observer might miss while flying down the highway at 100 kph. I love the challenge of finding beauty in the everyday features of clouds, grasses, fields, hay bales and the occasional tree; and I cannot resist an old barn with a rakish tilt, or a weathered old home, or a dilapidated fence line. The landscape of the prairies is often mislabelled "empty" or "boring" or "bland" and I'd like to instead showcase all the beauty and depth that is there, if you just stop for a minute and look around. The sky literally changes every minute, and the seasons bring such a variety to the scenery that there is just no end of inspiration for me.

It is my wish that you get a sense of the Prevailing Winds on the prairies as you glimpse through my work. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look through my lens!
