About

I’m Rebekka and I love fibre! As crazy as it sounds, I’ve always loved it, its been a part of me ever since my nan knitted my first cardie many years ago. Since then I’ve experimented with Knitting, Crochet and Weaving, but most of all I’m at my happiest when Spinning. Creating a yarn from raw fibres and a few other things thrown in is so unbelievably satisfying.

Like most artists I would have to say that I look to nature for inspiration, however the colour and texture of the fibers I have at any given time play a big part too! Sometimes I will sit with all my fibre around me and wait to see which colours and textures start to jump out. I have always had a soft spot for bright, fun and happy colours, and its the reason I got into spinning yarn in the first place, I was unable to find yarns in the colours or textures that I desired.

These days I use quite a number of different materials and fibers when I create my yarns, as I feel that different texture can add an extra dimension to the final piece. There are a vast array of fibers that are readily available just waiting to be experimented with, some of my favourite include, Wool (of course), Animal fibers such as Alpaca, Mohair and Silk, even plant fibres such as Bamboo, Cotton or Soy Silk will find their way into a yarn. Occasionally I also like to bring synthetic fibres into my yarns to enhance the final pieces in a way that nature can not. For example adding a little sparkle to a yarn by using Lurex, Firestar or Angelina (a sparkly almost tinsel like fiber) or perhaps just adding some Nylon to a sock yarn.

For me the possibility for fibre and materials are endless, which is why spinning is so exciting...
