Ron Philbeck's Profile
I began making pots in 1992 after returning home from NC State University where I studied mathematics and horticulture.
I learned the basics of making pots by attending various local community colleges. Later I attended John C. Campbell Folk School, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Penland School. Early on I also received generous help from Tom Gray in Seagrove NC. I have taken workshops with Clary Illian, Linda Christianson, Mary Law, Ayumi Horie, Will Ruggles and Douglass Rankin just to name a few. I have also attended countless demonstration type workshops.
I set up my Pottery on family land here in Shelby in 1994 and built my salt kiln in 1996 when I started making pots full time. I have 4 studio sales a year and have a good local following.
I have always been dedicated to making strong...
