Hello! Здравствуйте! Вітаю! My current name is Olena Connor (Elena Alexandrovna Deryazhnaya), and I am glad to be part of art community again! Movies, stage, theater, and any form of art was my passion growing up in Kiev, Ukraine (in the USSR). It was probably because I was “born” into filmmakers family, and, definitely, I was involved in cinematography as well. My Father’s urge to share devastating facts about Ukrainian history was expressed not only in his movies, but also in his writings. His ideas became known abroad, and Germany was first to sponsor my Father's documentary about Ukraine. Unexpectedly, at the end of Soviet era, Moscow, and thus Ukraine, would not allow it to happen. Tragically, Alexander Sergeevich Deryazhnyj had to be assassinated. My world changed forever.....Later, in 1995 I immigrated to the USA. Since then, Olena Connor, was trying very hard to achieve great “American dream”, which is very vogue concept. In the USA, although I was trying to continue studying theater and as psychology/education, my career changed drastically, and I became a scientist , something I wouldn’t never even thought about. However, over the years of research, discovering, teaching, publishings, participating at the conferences, I realized that original ideas, nontraditional approach, ‘out-of-box thinking’ are major factors in science. Apparently, science can’t be without creativity, freedom of expression, exchange of ideas, divergent reasoning, or anything that can lead to novel ideas and solutions. There is so much creativity in science, thus at some point I realized that there are no borders between concepts “ART” and “SCIENCE”. However, I still felt that something was missing in my life. I understood it when my Mother, Natasha, immigrated to the USA, in 2003. While retired, she continues her creative expressions in painting, knitting, jewelry making, and recently in poetry, music, and song writing!
I am trying to join my Mother in her passions, especially in jewelry making. Furthermore, I hope to introduce some of my Mother’s art pieces to anyone who is interested to see authentic work of beautiful Russian artist. I am happy to try and to learn from my Mother and we both are eager to learn from others. We hope to find friends with whom we can share our passion for art, appreciations and value for creativity, intricacy, originality, authenticity. I believe, these are only ways to real art which are freedom of expressions of everyones life perceptions in any beautiful form. I am confident that this is the way to add to the beauty of out world!
