Hello all!
My name is Alex and I want to be the first to welcome you to SHIM BABY! SHIM, you ask? Yes, SHIM, the contraction of 'She' and 'Him'.
Here's the story... in May 2010 my best friend announced she was having a baby. Not only that, they were going to be surprised on delivery day and not find out what they were having beforehand. Perfect, I thought. I love surprises. Fast forward three months to August as I'm shopping for a shower gift. Despite the plethora of thermometers, toys, and crib sheets from which to choose, I could hardly bring myself to make a purchase. Why? As a clotheshorse myself, all I wanted was to buy little pink tutus or little blue baseball caps. I was to be denied, however, because the unisex, neutral clothing available was limited to white onesies, white burp cloths, white blankets... you get the idea.
That's when the idea for SHIM BABY came to me. I could do something with all that white - I could make it my own and bring adorable, neutral, unisex baby gear to moms, dads, family, and friends who still looked forward to a surprise birth on D-Day. And so I began focusing on handmade basics: with baby-friendly designs and adult-friendly fabric patterns. My pieces are unique and provide a welcome respite from traditional baby fare offering gear that is perfect for both the to-be-determined little ones and little girls and boys as well. By using fabrics that are contemporary and adult-friendly, baby can be cute and cozy without cramping mom & dad's style - the best of both worlds if you will.
