The concept of casual wear was only introduced into Japan by westerners after the war. However, the western design were modified by the Japanese based on their own attributes and culture. Japanese vintages are well known for their elegant styles which are generally more conservative than those from the West. Their necklines are usually less wide and low, the sleeves are longer and the dress lengths are over-knees. Most of the garments were made of polyester/ chiffon which were very popular during the late 60's to the 70's in Japan. They were more durable, low maintenance and great for pleat press.

Back in the days even until now, a lot of foreign designers had their brands licensed to the Japanese fashion companies to design, manufacture and sell their clothes in Japan to lower making costs. Most of them were sold in the Japanese department stores and a lot of clothing were labeled as overseas designers yet made in Japan. Standard Vintage does not carry any fake designer vintage replicas or imitations.
