ABOUT ME:
My name is Amy and I have been married to my wonderful husband for 6 years and we have two very busy young boys, ages 4 and 2-1/2. We thank the Lord for his care for us and seek to glorify him in our daily lives. It is amazing to see what God does when you step back and let him give you his best!

As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed creating something from scratch with my own hands. I have tried my hand at lots of different 'arts', including watercolor, pencil drawing, acrylic painting, sewing, clay, stained glass, paper crafting, wire and steel, photography, and graphic design. I even like putting together Ikea furniture!

I started making jewelry in the fall of 2010. I heard about "metal clay" and read a few books and ordered some supplies. I taught myself (with the help of the books and the internet) and started making jewelry for family and friends as gifts. I also began learning more about semi-precious gemstones and incorporating them into my jewelry. None of the other things I tried has captured my interest the way that metal clay and gemstones have (except maybe photography and graphic design, which I get to use in promotion of my work). I am constantly thinking of new ideas and recording them in my little book so I don't forget.

I love the entire process of creating with metal clay, gemstones, and wire. With metal clay there is: forming the wet clay into shapes and adding texture, drying and refining it, firing, burnishing (making it shiny), oxidizing, and polishing. Working with wire and gemstones involves selecting colors and coming up with a plan for each item, then shaping the wire, wire-wrapping the stones, attaching them, sometimes hammering the wire, oxidizing the jewelry piece, and polishing it. I especially love that each piece is going to be different and each can be personalized.

Thank you for visiting SweetSilver and I hope you enjoy looking at my creations!
