Rachel Wright's Profile

About

My name is Rachel Wright and I am an artist and teacher. I love to make stuff, so this shop has become an outlet for my addiction! You can see my art garments at www.rachelwright.net.

I love to transform garments that I find in the thrift stores or surplus outlets. I never buy retail! Repurpose/Recycle/Renew is my mantra. I choose high quality garments and then add my own layer of embellishment onto them, either through applique or screenprinting. Most of the sewing I do is by hand, so it is time-intensive. The thread I use is doubled-up embroidery thread, usually in a contrasting color.

Because I rely on thrift stores & surplus outlets for my garments, I rarely have 2 of the same kind. When I am deciding how to alter each piece, I respond to each garment's characteristics, so the end result is a unique, one of a kind creation. I take great pride in my work,...

Because I rely on thrift stores & surplus outlets for my garments, I rarely have 2 of the same kind. When I am deciding how to alter each piece, I respond to each garment's characteristics, so the end result is a unique, one of a kind creation. I take great pride in my work, and I uphold a high level of craftsmanship. I believe in a thoughtful approach to crafting.

The "Toolgrrl" labels are screenprinted by hand on fabric & carefully sewn into each garment. Often, the stitching will show through on the back (see detail pictures).

I want my customers to be completely satisfied, so I will do everything in my power to ensure this. If you are unhappy with the garment, or it doesn't fit, I will refund the cost of the garment, or alter the piece until you are satisfied.

Of course, I am open to collaborating with my customers. If you are interested in a design of a different color or size, please don't hesitate to convo me with requests. I am also open to customizing a garment that you already own.
