Tony and Mindy Winchester's Profile

About

Winchester Pottery is the husband & wife team of potter Tony & equine artist Mindy Winchester. We make our living as studio artists out of our rural western Iowa home.
We have both a reduction kiln & a salt kiln, and somehow, three distinct lines of pottery, (some 6 tons of clay worth)manage to go through our four hands each year.
Tony uses both our kilns to make his personal contemporary art pottery, and we collaborate with our line of horse pottery, all thrown by Tony & then decorated with horses & landscapes by Mindy. Every piece we make is one of a kind and done free hand. We are both in the studio full time & travel to about 20 juried art fairs & horse expos a year to make our living. Our work may be also found in a few select galleries and gift shops across the country- (the Appaloosa Musuem gift shop in Moscow ID is our newest addition) and we have done personalized trophies...

Our work may be also found in a few select galleries and gift shops across the country- (the Appaloosa Musuem gift shop in Moscow ID is our newest addition) and we have done personalized trophies and awards for the NY Racing Assoc as well as dozens of other regional and national clubs from POAs to Morgans to National show Horses.
Tony is a multi national award winning potter, 3x Grand Champion of the US Pottery Games, and has been making a living as a studio potter since 1993. He has been featured in Ceramics Monthly, and in the Smithsonian gift shop in recent years.
Mindy is a self-taught equine artist, doodling horses on everything since childhood. Her work has been featured in Horsing Around magazine from the UK.
When not in the pottery, Mindy spreads her time between her long term interests as an equine miniaturist & painter, writer, (poet, performed playwright & songwriter, one day novelist) and occassional professional singer with her eclectic "acoustic acid band" Jain Jeffer from Sioux City IA who released their CD "F'n the Ineffable" in 1994
