About

So who am I? From your perspective who knows?

From my point of view, I am a formally trained and Board Certified Internal Medicine physician, artist, gardener, botanist, biologist, birder, mycophile (especially for edible basidiomycetes), rock climber, mother and lover of all things living. What separates Human beings from most other animals is art, specifically. Science, healing, cooking, nurturing, all the above listed pursuits are art.

Life is art.

My favorite creation (other than my kids of course) is my *insert deep breath here* purple anodized recycled aluminum beer can lost wax cast sea urchin test chunk necklace done in a pattern that is reminiscent of a Navajo squash blossom necklace. I made the aluminum cast pieces a long time ago, but only recently put them all together...

My next foray will probably be into fine metal clay...

As a physician I imagine it would seem obvious that I gravitate to the macabre and see the beauty in so called "ugliness". I tend to have edgy style that is playfully dark, but I can't express myself fully because of the conservative nature of my profession. People like Lady Gaga inspire me, they way she pushes limits and really embraces the theatrical is so much fun.

There are so many stories I can tell, which could yield hours of amusement and to some disgust. I have always strived to be something and someone who I felt was meaningful and sucessful, like say for example, a Nobel Laureate or a PhD in addition to my MD having discovered something "profound" and life altering for our culture, however....

Through my work as a physician, wildlife biologist and artist, I have come to understand that there is no such thing as an ordinary life. Every person's unique story is amazing, and my life is and has been amazing. I thought about writing a book, but I wouldn't really know how to begin. Maybe a compilation of short stories of some of my most memorable days. I no longer desire "fame or fortune", because the gift of my amazing life is more than enough.
