About

I'm inspired by many things in life. I can find beauty in anything and everything. My artistic influences are pinup, burlesque, film noir, Dia De Los Muertos, gothic, & nature.

Sewing and art is rooted in many generations of my family history. Sewing is a required skill of all the women and men. I took to sewing, like a fish does to swimming in water. I have been hand sewing since I was 4 years old. I started machine sewing at 12. With that talent of sewing, I developed a love for accessory design. I made many hair accessories, purses, and clothing items, before attending college for fashion design. There, I refined my machine and hand sewing abilities.

After college, I met my now husband and we had a daughter. Years passed, as she has grown. I went from being a stay at home mom to working full time in an office. In 2009, I left my…

In 2009, I left my mundane corporate job to become a full time artist. I've never been happier.

My love for millinery style hair accessory construction came about as I was frustrated by poorly constructed mass made items. I combined my refined hand sewing skills with my construction knowledge learned in college. Taking my time to sew each flower by hand with the same love and care as I do for clothing, has created long lasting hair accessories. I also love vintage style hair accessories, reminiscent of classic movies and pin-up models. I feel like I belong in another era of time.

I love making mini batches of flowers, so the stock always stays fresh, and I always have new flowers to add to my own hair. In each batch, I always make a flower for myself, so I can test the construction before selling additional flowers of the same or similar design. Because they are all hand made, no two flowers are exactly alike.

Outside of millinery, I am an artist of many different mediums. I'm a co-editor of http://www.skulladay.blogspot.com/ with the creator Noah Scalin and two other editors. I make skulls often and post them on Thursdays for Dia de la Abby - http://skulladay.blogspot.com/search/label/abby .

I also have my own blog, http://craftyladyabby.blogspot.com/. I post Skull-A-Day tutorials, other craft and fashion information.
